It’s hard not to draw comparisons between Megan Fox and another raven-haired Hollywood heavyweight with a penchant for bisexuality, tattoos and self-mutilation. While Fox may not get nominated for an Academy Award anytime soon, being called the next Angelina Jolie definitely isn’t too shabby.
Aside from the cover of every men’s magazine on newsstands, you’ve probably caught her trying to avoid the apocalypse (and looking incredibly hot while doing it) in the first two Transformers films.
From Tomboy To Tease
But she came from humble beginnings in Tennessee, the daughter to Darlene Tonachio and Franklin Fox. Her parents split when she was a child and she grew up with her mother and her stepfather, Tony Tonachio, who sent her to Catholic school and kept her under strict supervision. According to Fox, high school was a difficult time for her.
She was considered an outcast and picked on by her peers because she was a tomboy.
As a teen, she landed bit parts in movies and television shows until she scored her first feature film role in Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen alongside Lindsay Lohan in 2004. She admitted the two weren’t friendly during filming saying, “I didn’t get along with Lindsay Lohan on Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, but you have to consider that we were 16-year-old girls.”
2004 was also the year she was cast in Hope & Faith, a short-lived ABC sitcom starring Kelly Ripa, which set the stage for her meeting with on-again off-again fiancé (now husband) Brian Austin Green of Beverly Hills, 90210 fame.
Transformation
The public started to really pay attention to Megan when she was cast in the 2007 action film Transformers as Mikaela Banes, Shia LaBeouf’s love interest. The summer blockbuster immediately transformed her into a sensation and a sex symbol, and it wasn’t long before she was the fantasy of teenage boys and middle-aged men alike.
It also led to roles in small films like How to Lose Friends & Alienate People with British comedian Simon Pegg and Whore with Bruce Willis’ daughter Rumer Willis, but the Transformers franchise continued to be her bread and butter.
The sequel, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen banked over $400 million in the U.S. alone when it was released in the summer of 2009.
The Loose-Lipped Beauty
By then, Fox had developed a reputation for being outspoken and controversial. She talked openly about being bisexual and advocated for the legalization of marijuana. But she may have overstepped her bounds when she decided to criticize Michael Bay, the director of Transformers, who many consider opened up doors for her.
In September of 2009, she called him “awkward,” a “tyrant” and compared him to Hitler. Not surprisingly, the role of Mikaela Banes was recast with Victoria’s Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Transformers 3.
Fox played the title role in Diablo Cody’s film Jennifer’s Body about a possessessed cheerleader who lives on a diet of high school boys in 2009, before landing a role as Josh Brolin’s prostitute leading lady in Jonah Hex, which hit theaters in 2010. Unfortunately, the film was panned by critics and tanked at the box office.
The bombshell broke the hearts of every male in America when she finally married Green on June 24, 2010 in Hawaii. Her career, despite lacking much substance, continues to thrive thanks to her physical assets and her bankability (Jonah Hex aside). She might not land an Oscar (or Brad Pitt, for that matter edit: Brad Pitt scored an Oscar for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) any time in the foreseeable future, but her image will still have a secure place on every fanboy’s walls and computer desktop for years to come.
