About TJ Dillashaw
Let’s just say that not many people saw TJ Dillashaw’s challenge to Renan Barao at UFC 173. After all, Dillashaw appeared to be the next challenger to be dispatched as Barao was simply cleaning the clocks of everyone he was facing. But Dillashaw’s speed, footwork, and capacity to transition from standing to grappling in a split second surprised the general public.
To add to the legend, Dillashaw continued to push forward despite knowing he would win by unanimous decision going into the fifth round. That is, until he managed to get a left hand in, which helped to knock down his opponent. We experienced one of the biggest upsets in MMA history after several punches on the ground.

Beginnings of martial arts
Dillashaw spent his whole high school career, which ended in 2004, as a member of the wrestling team at Bret Harte High School. Later, he received a full wrestling scholarship to attend Cal State Fullerton. He finished the Pac-10 Championships in 2008 in fourth place with a record of 22-10 and four pins.
However, Dillashaw’s wrestling career began with a 14–16 freshman score, which prompted him to go to the Ukraine to hone his techniques. In his second season, his record increased to 17-14.
Beginnings of MMA
Dillashaw accepted Urijah Faber’s invitation to start MMA training after graduating and went 2-0 as an amateur fighting under their guidance. On March 26, 2010, he defeated Czar Sklavos in his professional MMA debut, winning by unanimous decision. Before taking part in the Ultimate Fighter 14, a reality television program where fighters compete for a six-figure UFC contract, Dillashaw had an overall record of 4-0 to start his career. By TKO, John Dodson defeated him in the championship bout.
