About Cesar Millan
After being profiled in the Los Angeles Times in 2002, Millan began working with MPH Entertainment, Inc. on a pilot for Dog Whisperer, a reality show that would follow him in his work rehabilitating dogs. The series debuted on National Geographic Channel on September 13, 2004, and has since moved to the Nat Geo WILD channel. During its existence, the show was shown in more than eighty countries around the world and became the highest-rated program on National Geographic’s cable channel. On September 15, 2012, in the United States, the series finale aired.
At the age of 21, without knowing any English and with only US$100 in his pocket, Millan crossed the border into the United States illegally. Millan opened up about his terrible experience in an interview with his longtime friend Jada Pinkett Smith in July of 2018. Millan was born to Felipe Millán Guillen and Maria Teresa Favela on August 27, 1969, in rural Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico.
Millan’s grandpa, Teodoro Millán ngulo, was a tenant farmer on a farm in Sinaloa, where Millan spent his childhood working with animals. He was known as el Perrero, or “the dog herder” for his uncanny ability to work with canines. A while later, they uprooted and settled in Mazatlán.
Millan worked at a dog grooming salon for his first employment in the USA. After that, he founded the Pacific Point Canine Academy. When Millan was first starting out as a limo driver, one of his first clients and supporters was Jada Pinkett Smith. She hired an English teacher for him and gave him a job for a year. So, Millan established the Dog Psychology Center in South L.A., a two-acre (0.81 ha) facility dedicated to helping big dogs.
In 1994, he wed Ilusión Wilson, and the couple now has two boys. Millan then established the Dog Psychology Center, an acre and a half (0.81 hectare) in size, in South Los Angeles, with a focus on training large breed dogs. The Dog Psychology Center uprooted and drove all the way out to Santa Clarita, California in the year 2009.
The Wall Street Journal reported in 2009 that fifty percent of American customers were familiar with Millan, prompting him to launch a monthly magazine with IMG under the same name. The New York Times credited Millan’s success to his “a sort of über-balanced mien” which they said was the secret to his success.
Millan moved to the United States permanently in the year 2000, and he eventually obtained his citizenship in 2009. After losing his dog Daddy in February and learning about his wife’s intention to divorce him, Millan made a suicide attempt in May of 2010. Ilusión Millan demanded a dissolution of their marriage in June of 2010.
In August of 2010, he started dating actress and one-time stylist and wardrobe consultant Jahira Dar. On the April 27, 2011 episode of Jeopardy!, Millan appeared as a special guest and provided category clues. On September 15, 2012, in the United States, the final episode of “The Dog Whisperer” aired.
From January 5, 2013, to March 26, 2013, Cesar Millan’s Leader of the Pack aired on the Nat Geo Wild channel as an American documentary television series. Millan’s new series Cesar 911 debuted on the Nat Geo WILD channel in 2014; in international regions, it is known as Cesar to the Rescue. In 2015, he created the preschool series Mutt & Stuff for the Nickelodeon network with children’s television veterans Sid and Marty Krofft. Calvin Millan is starring in his own TV show.
A nurse in Florida filed a lawsuit against Millan in 2015 after she was assaulted by a dog that Millan had just released from his Dog Psychology Center. In April of 2016, Jahira Dar and Millan made their engagement announcement. A gymnast named Lidia Matiss filed a lawsuit against Cesar Millan in 2017, alleging that Millan’s dog had attacked and killed Queen Latifah‘s dog. Junior, Millan’s pit bull, was accused of killing Queen Latifah’s dog, but Millan officially disputed the allegations.
In a July 2018 interview with longtime friend Jada Pinkett Smith, Millan detailed his dangerous voyage to the United States. When Milan’s pit bull puppy, Junior, passed away on July 21, 2021, he was devastated. Cesar posted a YouTube video titled “A Tribute To My Best Friend (Junior Millan)” to share the news of his death.
