About Kody Brown
On January 17, 1969, Kody Winn Brown was conceived by his parents, William Winn (“Winn”) Brown and Genielle Tew. His paternal grandfather was likewise a polygamist who married three times. Actually, his dad didn’t start marrying multiple women until he was well into adulthood. Kody is the youngest of nine siblings, but their maternal lineage is a mystery.
He claims that his parents had difficulty reconciling the contradictions inherent in the Mormon faith with plural marriage as he was growing up.
TLC’s Sister Wives features the Brown family, and he serves as the family patriarch. He is the proud father of eighteen children and the proud grandfather of three grandkids from his marriages to Meri Barber, Janelle Schriever, and Robyn Sullivan. Also, Kody has an ex-wife named Christine Allred. She was his third wife and was married to him from the years 1994 to 2021.
In April 1990, the law finally recognized the union between the two people from Wyoming. Kody “spiritually married” Janelle in 1993 and Christine the following year after the pair made the decision to engage in polygamy. The divorce between Kody and Meri was finalized in September 2014 so that Kody could marry Robyn, whom he had been seeing, and adopt her children from a previous marriage. There may be no longer be a formal tie between him and Meri, but they are still very much “spiritually married.” Kody and Robyn, whom he was seeing at the time of the first season of Sister Wives, eventually got married that same year.
Christine and Kody’s breakup was publicized in November of 2021. However, in December of 2022, Janelle let it slip that she and the patriarch had been “separated for several months” before their 30th wedding anniversary.
