Who Is Reba Mcentire

She began her music career during her time in high school and since then has become one of the most iconic names in the music industry. Often dubbed “The Queen of Country”, Reba has sold over 75 million records worldwide, including 16 number one albums and 42 number one singles. Apart from her victorious music career, the talented singer has also embarked on an acting career.
Since the 1990s, she has starred in various television series and films such as “Tremors”, “Maverick”, “The Little Rascals”, “Get Your Gun”, and “Charlotte’s Web” to name a few. From 2001 to 2006, the actress also took part in her own television sitcom – “Reba”. Thanks to her performances as an actress and singer, the multi-talented Reba is the recipient of multiple awards, including three Grammy Awards.
The 1970’s – the beginning of a career
In 1974, Reba sang the Star Spangled Banner at the National Rodeo Finals in Oklahoma City, where she was heard by country singer Red Steagall. He suggested she move to Nashville, and pursue a record deal, which she did, and was signed by Mercury Records singing honky tonk styled songs. Reba had her first charting single in 1976, with “I Don’t Want to be a One Night Stand,” which peaked at No. 88.
Reba reached the Top 10 in 1980 with the song “(You Lift Me) Up to Heaven.” It wasn’t until she released her fifth album, Unlimited that she finally had her first #1’s, with “Can’t Even Get the Blues,” and “You’re the First Time I’ve Thought of Leaving,” which were back to back chart toppers in 1983. She became the opening act for the Statler Brothers, and then with Conway Twitty, Ronnie Milsap, Mickey Gilley and others.
With a more pop country sound, Reba expanded her audience, and in 1984, moved to MCA, where she released Just a Little Love.
“My Kind of Country”
For her second album on the label, Reba wanted to go back to a more traditional sound, and she released an album of country standards, called My Kind of Country. This became her first Gold album.
From 1984 – 1987, Reba won the CMA Female Vocalist award. She also won the CMA Entertainer of the Year award in 1986. She’s one of only five solo female artists to have done so (others include Barbara Mandrell, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, and Shania Twain). 1986 was also the year that she released Whoever’s in New England, which was her first No. 1 album, and the title track gave her her fifth No. 1 single.
While the 1980’s were wonderful years for Reba career-wise, on March 16, 1991, Reba lost her entire band and her road manager, as the plane they were flying crashed, killing everyone aboard. Reba was devastated. She dedicated her next album, For My Broken Heart to them.
Reba had parts in a few different movies, North, The Little Rascals, and the sci-fi cult hit, Tremors, and in 2001, she took over the lead in Annie Get Your Gun on Broadway. Later that year, she began her own sitcom, Reba, which ran for six successful seasons.
The “Duets” album and Reba today
Reba released her Duets album in 2008. One of the duets was with Kelly Clarkson, whom Reba paired up with to tour together in 2008 as co-headliners. Reba is hosted the ACM Awards for the 11th time in 2009. She debuted her debut single, “Strange,” from her new label, The Valory Music Co. on the ACM Awards show, and it became her highest solo chart debut of her career, starting at No. 39.

In 1984, after the release of her seventh album “Just a Little Love”, Reba had her breakthrough and received a recording deal with MCA Nashville Records for more than $5 million.
Since 1986, the talented singer began receiving gold and platinum certifications for her studio albums. Just that year alone, she released three albums, two of which debuted at number one in various US Country charts.
