About Shane Gillis
In 2012, Gillis started his career as a comedian. He gave performances in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on a regular basis. He moved to Philadelphia so that he might advance his career there. In 2015, he competed in the annual “Philly’s Phunniest” tournament held at Helium Comedy Club. He finished in third place, and the following year, he won the competition. On September 12, 2019, it was revealed that Gillis would be joining Bowen Yang and Chloe Fineman as a featured cast member on Saturday Night Live. Chloe Fineman and Bowen Yang were also announced.
Later on that day, however, several clips from a 2018 episode of Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast, which have since been removed from YouTube, resurfaced online. In these clips, Gillis can be heard making jokes that include the word “Chink,” which is an ethnic slur that refers to people of Asian descent.
Gillis and his co-host Matt McCusker graded comedians according to race, gender, and sexual orientation in other clips, which included the usage of homophobic slurs. Later on that same evening, Gillis sent out a tweet in which he stated that “”I’m a comic who pushes limits,” and “if you go through my 10 years of comedy, most of which is poor, you’re going to find a lot of bad misses,” are two things that you might hear me say. Gilly and Keeves is a comedy online series that debuted in December 2020 and was created by Shane and the comedian John McKeever. The series stars Gillis and McKeever in a variety of comedic routines, some of which are “ISIS Toyota” “Uncle Daycare” and “Trump Speed Dating”
Shane Gillis: Live in Austin was the title of Gillis’s first stand-up comedy special, which was uploaded on YouTube on September 7, 2021. The comedy website The Laugh Button placed Shane’s special at number two on their list of the top twenty comedy specials of 2021.
