Who Is Orlando Bloom
The accent, those eyes, and that uncanny ability to maneuver long objects (like swords and lances)—it’s no wonder the ladies can’t get enough of Orlando Bloom. Having been part of two of the largest movie franchises in the last decade, whether he’s playing an elf prince or a pirate-slaying blacksmith, we’re watching.
English actor Orlando Bloom has a net worth of $40 million dollars, as of 2021.
A Telenovela Childhood
Born in Kent, England, Orlando was raised in a single parent home after his father died of a stroke when he was only four years old. But the drama-ridden film that he called reality didn’t stop there. A friend of the family, Colin Stone, stepped in as a father figure for Orlando and his older sister before Orlando’s mother admitted to him when he was 13, that Colin was actually his biological father.
Things didn’t get easier when Orlando was diagnosed with dyslexia—a learning disorder that pushed Orlando to discover the arts. Orlando dabbled in photography, sculpture, literature and poetry and was often encouraged by his mother to participate in local poetry reading competitions.
When he was 16, Orlando headed to London to join the National Youth Theatre before receiving a scholarship to study the craft at the British American Drama Academy. The auditioning floodgates finally opened and Orlando landed small roles in British TV shows like Midsomer Murders and Smack the Pony. But his first feature film small role debut came in the flick Wilde,in which he played a rent boy.
Lord Of Hollywood
But Orlando’s big break came just after a different kind of break. In 1998, Orlando fell from a rooftop terrace landing three stories below with a broken back. Just escaping the potential of being fully paralyzed, Orlando was eager to get back to school and the stage and made a quick and full recovery.
While performing at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Orlando was unknowingly delivering his lines to an audience member that would change his life. Famed director Peter Jackson was in the audience that night and asked Orlando to speak with him after the show about a part in his newest venture. After a few rounds of auditions, Orlando landed a role in the The Lord of the Rings trilogy—a part that would secure his name on the lips of every director to ever produce a sword-wielding or period action drama.
With one trilogy under his belt, Orlando secured a spot in the next box office franchise masterpiece—Pirates of the Caribbean. Opposite Keira Knightley, Orlando’s morally sound do-good character gave him the title of “hero” of the series. A part he would again play well in the 2004 blockbuster Troy alongside the equally swoon-worthy Brad Pitt. With Hollywood at his fingertips, Orlando went on to try his hand at romantic comedies like Elizabethtown (2005) and New York, I Love You (2009).
Canoodling With An Angel
Orlando’s superstardom has been good to more than just his career. Following a four-year romance with actress Kate Bosworth, in 2007, Orlando began dating supermodel and Victoria’s Secret angel Miranda Kerr. The unbearably attractive couple tied the knot in June of 2010 just before welcoming a baby boy to their family in January of the following year. In 2013 the marriage ended in divorce, Miranda married Evan Spiegel in 2017, and Orlando began dating Katy Perry in 2016.
With a face that could make any girl weak in the knees, a supermodel on his arm and a career that churns out nothing but box office smash hits, Orlando is the epitome of Hollywood royalty—sword or no sword.
Defining Quote “‘Is there a sword in that movie? Alright, I’ll do it!’…Now I have these great skills that are completely useless in everyday life, you know what I mean? Like bow and arrow–what am I doing with that walking down the street?”
