About Nancy Sinatra
Sinatra was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, on June 8, 1940. She is the oldest of Frank Sinatra’s three children with Nancy Barbato, his first wife. Her parents were both of Italian descent. The family relocated to Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey, when she was a young child. For her father’s Hollywood job, they then relocated once more to Toluca Lake, California. She received voice training for several months as well as years of piano, dance, and dramatic performance lessons there.
She made her acting debut in 1960 on her father’s television spectacular The Frank Sinatra Timex Show: Welcome Home Elvis, which honored Elvis Presley‘s return from Europe after being released from the military.
Her father dispatched Nancy to the airport to meet Presley when his flight touched down. Sinatra and her father sang the duet “You Make Me Feel So Young/Old” on the special while dancing. She started her five-year marriage to Tommy Sands in the same year.
In the 1963 Burke’s Law episode “Who Killed Wade Walker?” Sinatra portrayed a secretary. She appeared in three beach party movies: The Ghost in the Invisible Bikini (1966), Get Yourself a College Girl (1964), and For Those Who Think Young (1964), all of which included her singing. She withdrew from Beach Blanket Bingo after landing the part that finally went to Linda Evans because the movie’s kidnapping plotline was too similar to what happened when her brother Frank Sinatra Jr. was abducted in December 1963.
Up until 1970, Sinatra stayed with Reprise. Three albums were released as a result of her 1971 signing with RCA Records: Nancy & Lee – Again (1971), Woman (1972), and This Is Nancy Sinatra, a collection of some of her Reprise records (1973). In 1973, she issued the non-LP single “Sugar Me” with “Ain’t No Sunshine.” Lynsey De Paul and Barry Blue co-wrote “Sugar Me,” which was reissued in 1998 along with other renditions of songs by well-known songwriters from the early 1970s.
In the May 1995 issue of Playboy, Sinatra, then 54, photographed for the magazine and made TV appearances to promote her CD One More Time. The magazine appearance generated significant debate. She said that her father was pleased with the pictures while appearing on chat shows. On a 1995 episode of The Tonight Show, Sinatra revealed that her girls had approved the concept, but that she should consult her father first. When Sinatra told her father how much Playboy would pay her, he allegedly replied, “Double that.”
On October 21, 2020, Nancy’s Bootique, Sinatra’s online store, opened. It offers CDs, vinyl, branded goods, and signature stuff.
On September 17, 2021, Light In The Attic Records released a new vinyl, CD, 8-track, and digital edition of Sinatra’s first album, Boots.
