About Maino
The career of Maino comprises the release of one compilation album, one extended play (EP), two studio albums, thirteen mixtapes, nine singles, four promotional singles and nine music videos. His first single, “Hi Hater” reached #16 on Billboard’s Hot Rap Songs chart. The Recording Industry Association of America certified his follow-up, “All the Above,” which features American singer T-Pain, as platinum (RIAA). Maino has, to date, sold slightly under 4 million digital singles worldwide.
Coleman did not have a stable home life growing up, so he turned to petty criminality and eventually ended up in prison in the early 1990s. There he learnt to rap so that he could deal with boredom and isolation. “Since I had nothing to do for 23 hours a day while incarcerated, I decided to take up rapping. Jermaine Coleman was born in New York City. In the early 1990s, Maino was involved in a “drug related kidnapping,” and received a sentence of five to fifteen years in jail. Maino and his Hustle Hard label signed with Atlantic Records on August 28, 2007. He immediately began working on his debut album, If Tomorrow Comes…. His commercial debut single, titled “Hi Hater,” was released in April 2008.
The official remix, which also features American rappers T.I., Swizz Beatz, Plies, Jadakiss, and Fabolous, was released by Maino later. The song “All the Above,” which featured T-Pain, was the album’s second single. In the Billboard Hot 100, “All the Above” is Maino’s debut entry. It opened at #54 and then rose to #39 the next week. In addition to its success on the Pop 100, the song also reached #10 on the Hot Rap Tracks list and #59 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The song has been certified platinum and is Maino’s lone Top 40 success to date.
Swizz Beatz provides both vocals and production for the third single, “Million Bucks,” off the aforementioned album. With first-week sales of 18,000 copies in the United States, If Tomorrow Comes… opened at position number twenty-five on the Billboard 200. For the 2008 video game Grand Theft Auto IV, Maino composed an original song titled “Getaway Driver”
On February 2, 2010, Maino released Unstoppable, exclusively through iTunes; an extended play (EP) which comprised four new recordings. Mino revealed on July 5th, 2011 that while Atlantic Records will be handling promotion for his second studio album, The Day After Tomorrow, E1 Music would be handling distribution.
Roscoe Dash, an Atlanta-based rapper and singer, appears on the album’s debut single, “Let It Fly” Debuting at position #57 on the US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The Day After Tomorrow debuted at number 94 on the Billboard 200, far lower than Maino’s first album.
Maino, Push!, Lucky Don, Twigg Martin, and Hustle Hard Mouse are all members of the rap group The Black Flag Mafia, which was created under Maino’s label. The Mafia, their debut mixtape, was released on October 9, 2012.
Maino dropped his King Of Brooklyn EP digitally on February 4, 2014. Mellanie Monroe, a pornstar at the time, said that Maino molested her that same year. Maino was exonerated of all accusations because the incident was not an assault, as evidenced by the videotapes. When Maino collaborated with Erika Jayne on 2015’s “Crazy” the song became a top 10 dance smash in the United States.
NYPD Chief James O’Neill stated, “We do not believe that Maino was involved in the dispute.” clearing him of any involvement in the 2016 shooting at Irving Plaza. His 2018 album features a duet with RRose RRome.
