Born in Fort Myers, Florida, Washington Algemod Lenier Washington “Plies” dropped out of college to start his career as a rapper with the support of his step brother, Ronnell Lawrence Lavatte “Big Gates”. Together they founded an independent record label, Big Gates Records. They released the track “Tell Dem Krackers Dat” and soon after traveled to Miami on a few seperate trips to promote it. This activity resulted in a deal for Plies on Slip-n-Slide Record.
