Who is Kaley Cuoco?
Kelly Cuoco is a television actor who had profitable roles since the age of 17. People know her best for starring as Penny in The Big Bang Theory, which ran for 12 seasons. In that time, she went from making $60,000 per episode in the first season, to becoming one of the highest paid women in television history.
How did Kaley get so rich?
Kaley Cuoco brings in an incredible $900,000 per episode of The Big Bang Theory. She used to make $1 million per episode along with co-stars Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki, which would tie them with the stars of Friends for the highest paid actors in television, but they humbly took a pay cut so that the actors who play secondary characters in the show could earn a higher salary.
But, not only does she make money off her acting and royalties, which are sure to be extremely lucrative, but Cuoco has signed several endorsement deals throughout her career too. She has made millions off Toyota, and most notably, along with William Shatner, Cuoco was the face of priceline.com, a travel agency that owns booking.com and rental cars.com, which earned her $2 million in 2013.
Though too early to say, another potentially lucrative business for Cuoco is her production company, Yes, Norman Productions, which was founded at the end of 2017. Not much information is known about the production company, other than that is is named after Cuoco’s dog. The company signed a “first look” deal with Warner Bros. Television, meaning that Warner are allowed first right of refusal to any of the company’s productions. The one production Yes, Norman Productions is working on is a television series adaptation of the Chris Bohjalian novel, The Flight Attendant, a crime drama about a women who wakes up with a hangover in a hotel room, laying next to a dead body. The drama is set to be released in 2021.
Why is she so famous?
When Cuoco was just 17, she was cast in 8 Simple Rules, a run of the mill family sitcom in which she played one of the antagonising teenage children. The the show did last for three full seasons and and a total of 76 episodes, unfortunately, the show was cancelled due to the declining ratings after TV dad John Ritter passed away. Cuoco, though not famous at the time, continued to see moderate success from voicing the main character in the animated kids’ show, Brandy & Mr. Whiskers. She had also become a regular in Charmed in its eighth and final season.
Kaley Cuoco got her big break when she was cast in The Big Bang Theory, she plays Penny, who is literally the girl next door character who two nerdy physicist neighbors pine over. When actors are auditioning for a television show they never really know how long it’ll last, and there are more failed sitcoms than successful ones, so even if they are cast, actors are still looking for other roles and continue to audition. However, The Big Bang Theory was different and Cuoco knew it was going to be a huge success based on the creator of the show. The producer, Chuck Lorre, is a sitcom producing wizard, as he is the creator of Grace Under Fire, Dharma & Greg, and Two And A Half Men. So the chances of The Big Bang Theory failing, though possible, was highly unlikely.
But even then, the show blew up like the literal Big Bang itself, peaking in season nine with over 20 million viewers per episode. Even in its final seasons the show’s viewership never took that much of a dip. After the 12th season ended it was unclear if Cuoco wanted to continue the show, but the show was cancelled due to co-star Jim Parsons calling it quits. If the show continued, she would have been looking at a salary of $50 million for season 13.
What makes her so successful?
Kelly Cuoco starred as Penny in The Big Bang Theory for 12 whole seasons, outlasting most sitcoms, and has a grand total of 279 episodes, which the actor only missed a couple due to an injury after falling off a horse. She is dedicated to any work she does, and because of that she has been nominated for and won several People’s Choice and Teen Choice awards.
After a 12 year hiatus from voice acting, in 2018 Cuoco returned to animation, though the show she’d be working on isn’t quite as child friendly as Brandy & Mr. Whiskers. This time she would be taking on the animated role of Harley Quinn, one of the more famous Batman villains after the character was portrayed by Margot Robbie in the movie Suicide Squad. The series, aptly titled Harley Quinn, is influenced by the humor of the film franchise Deadpool, as Harley Quinn also features crude jokes, and fourth wall breaking comedy. For the ensemble cast, Cuoco has smartly surrounded herself with a broad cast of high-profile comedy actors, such as Arrested Development’s Tony Hale, Seinfeld’s Jason Alexander, and Curb Your Enthusiasm’s J.B. Smoove.
After starring in several TV shows and amassed enough money for several lifetimes, Kaley Cuoco is still very young at just 34 years old. It shouldn’t be hard to believe that the actress has an estimated net worth of $55 million, and that figure may have grown as it was last reported in 2018. The figure will likely continue to grow as she’s now going headstrong in to executive producing multiple television shows with her own production company and with Warner. Having found huge success and is massively comfortable in the television industry, why would she leave? 2021 will see the release of The Flight Attendant, which Cuoco will star in and it will be available to stream on the upcoming streaming service, HBO Max. She is also producing the upcoming CBS comedy, Pretty. And, of course, there is sure to be a season three of Harley Quinn too, as the show was highly successful commercially and critically it only makes sense.
