About Joe Kernen
During an interview that took place on air in November 2014, Kernen asked Martin Shanahan, the chief executive of IDA Ireland, why Ireland did not use the pound sterling. He also inquired as to whether or not Ireland and Scotland were located on the same island. According to Kernen’s detractors, he gave the impression of thinking that the Republic of Ireland was a part of the United Kingdom.
Kernen spent his childhood in the neighborhood of Western Hills in Cincinnati, which he later attended and graduated from St. Xavier High School in 1974. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado in Boulder and his master’s degree in molecular biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and worked on cancer research. Both degrees are in the field of molecular biology. Both “The Kahuna” and “The Hair” are some of his nicknames.
