About Guy Fisher
Fisher was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of release in 1984 after being found guilty of many counts of RICO offenses. These RICO offences included continuous criminal conspiracy, drug trafficking, and murder. The testimony provided by Fisher’s former mentor, associate, and opponent, Leroy “Nicky” Barnes, was important in securing Fisher’s conviction. In 1978, Barnes was put on trial for various counts of racketeering and was found guilty on all of the charges. He was then given a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Rudolph Giuliani, who would go on to become Mayor of New York City, was the prosecutor in this case. Eleven months after he was sentenced to prison, Barnes called federal prosecutors and informed them that he was willing to cooperate with the government as an informant in their investigation of Fisher and the other defendants. Barnes stated in his testimony that the reason he made the decision to testify was due to the fact that Fisher was having an affair with his mistress. Barnes was granted entrance into the government Witness Protection Program in exchange for the information he provided.
