About Monica Lewinsky
Lewinsky was raised in a wealthy family in Southern California in the Westside Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles and then in Beverly Hills. She was born in San Francisco, California. Her father, an oncologist named Bernard Lewinsky, was born to German Jews who fled Nazi Germany as children. He originally resided in El Salvador before making his way, when he was just 14 years old, to the United States.
Lewinsky attended Sinai Akiba Academy, the Temple’s school affiliate, while the family attended Sinai Temple in Los Angeles. She received her primary schooling at the Bel-Air John Thomas Dye School. Lewinsky spent her first three years of high school at Beverly Hills High School before transferring to Bel Air Prep, subsequently known as Pacific High School, where she earned her diploma in 1991.
She allegedly started an illicit relationship with married former high school theater teacher Andy Bleiler in 1992 that lasted for five years. After graduating from high school, Lewinsky enrolled at Santa Monica College. She was employed at the Beverly Hills High School acting department at the time, in addition to a tie store. She enrolled in Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, in 1993, and earned a psychology bachelor’s degree there in 1995.
Lewinsky was able to acquire an unpaid summer internship at the White House in Leon Panetta’s office with the help of a familial link. In July 1995, Lewinsky relocated to Washington, D.C., and started working there. In December 1995, she transferred to a position with pay in the White House Office of Legislative Affairs.
She admitted having an affair with a 40-year-old married man in Los Angeles when she was 18 years old and that it lasted while she was a student at Lewis & Clark College in the early 1990s, but she did not reveal the guy’s identify, in an interview on Larry King Live in 2000.
Because they thought Lewinsky was spending too much time with Clinton, her supervisors moved her from the White House to the Pentagon in April 1996. When Lewinsky revealed her relationship with Clinton to her coworker Linda Tripp, Tripp started surreptitiously recording their phone calls in September 1997. Lewinsky said that between November 1995 and March 1997, she had nine sex acts in the Oval Office with President Bill Clinton. Her evidence indicated that these involved fellatio and other sexual actions but not sexual contact.

In a nationally broadcast White House press conference on January 26, 1998, Clinton said, “I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky” On August 17, 1998, Clinton defended his statement, “There is not a sexual relationship, an improper sexual relationship or any other kind of improper relationship”. “I did have a relationship with Miss Lewinsky that was not appropriate” Clinton later admitted.
Clinton asserted that he did not engage in sexual encounters because some activities were carried out on him rather than by him. In exchange for her testimony, Lewinsky received transactional immunity from the Office of the Independent Counsel. She received roughly $500,000 from her work on a book and another $1 million from the sale of the Walters interview’s worldwide rights, but she was still burdened by costly living and legal expenses.
Lewinsky started making appearances in Jenny Craig, Inc. diet-related television commercials around the beginning of 2000. Lewinsky was obliged to shed at least 40 pounds in six months as part of a $1 million endorsement agreement at the time. Lewinsky tweeted the #MeToo hashtag in October 2017 to admit that she had been the victim of sexual harassment and/or assault. When Bill Clinton accepted an invitation to a Town & Country event in May 2018, Lewinsky was not allowed to attend. On his HBO program Last Week Tonight with John Oliver in 2019, he had an interview with her. Also that year, it was revealed that the third season of the American Crime Story television series, titled Impeachment, would center on the Clinton-Lewinsky controversy.
