About Cung Le
When Cung Le and Frank Shamrock squared off on March 29, 2008, for Shamrock’s then-Strikeforce Middleweight Championship, some openly questioned Cung Le’s ability to remain standing up against an MMA icon like Shamrock. They even questioned whether he was capable of striking with him.
The master of the side kick, spinning back kick, and scissor kick/sweeps was up for the challenge, though, as people quickly realized. And eventually, with his patented hitting prowess, Shamrock’s right arm was broken, and a belt was fastened around his waist.
The best example of traditional martial arts in an effective MMA cage is Cung Le. This is his tale.

Early life: Tae Kwon Do and Leaving Vietnam
Le’s mother Anne waited ten anxious hours one night in April 1975 to be given the go-ahead to board a flight to America. Le and Anne left Vietnam by helicopter while under heavy gunfire in the same month, three days before Saigon fell. When they arrived in San Jose, California, Le quickly learned about racism and bullying because he was the victim of it and was called names like “Gook” and “Nip” His mother consequently enrolled him in Tae Kwon Do classes when he was ten years old. He finally earned the rank of black belt in the art.
Wrestling
Le is recognized as a hitter, but his grappling abilities, particularly his wrestling, in connection to his takedown defense, are one of the reasons he can use his stand-up in MMA. This resulted from beginning competitive play when I was 14 years old. Le received All-American recognition during his junior year in high school. He later attended West Valley College in Saratoga, California, where he competed in wrestling and won the 1990 California Junior College State Championship.
Expert Sanshou Kickboxing
Sanshou kickboxing is mostly based on kung fu. Despite this, Le joined these contests without any official kung fu instruction, relying instead on his grasp of Tae Kwon Do and his wrestling abilities (brief clinches and takedowns are allowed in Sanshou). On August 31, 1997, Le made his professional debut at the 1997 Kung Fu Championships in Orlando, Florida, where he defeated Jason Yee. From that point on, he had a remarkable 17-0 record in professional Sanshou, and he gained notoriety for his spinning kicks, flying scissor kicks, and general takedowns. He is regarded as one of the all-time greats in the sport and a three-time world champion.
Beginnings of Professional MMA
Le made the choice to transition from the kickboxing ring to the MMA cage after defeating veteran MMA fighter Brian Ebersole by decision on June 4, 2005.
Le defeated Mike Altman by first-round knockout on March 10, 2006, as part of the Strikeforce: Shamrock vs. Gracie program. He really won his first five professional mixed martial arts matches, demonstrating both his striking and takedown defense, before facing Frank Shamrock for a shot at the Strikeforce Middleweight title.

losing a battle
On December 19, 2009, Le lost his first MMA and professional match to Scott Smith. Le pounded Smith with strikes throughout the first two rounds, but Smith stopped him with punches in the third. On June 26, 2010, Le got back at Smith, knocking him out in round two with a spinning kick.
debut of UFC
Le made his UFC debut after Zuffa bought Strikeforce (the parent company of the UFC). He lost his professional debut to Wanderlei Silva in a spectacular battle by TKO in the second round.
Movie Career
Le is really passionate about his career in movies. On November 5, 2009, he co-starred in the film Tekken as Marshall Law. In addition, he appeared in the films Bodyguards and Assassins, Fighting, and Pandorum, which starred Channing Tatum and Dennis Quaid (worked with Donnie Yen). He also participated in the Paris by Night Vietnamese music program.
Combative Style
Le is an undisputed super striker with some of the most impressive kicks in the world, which are a direct result of his Tae Kwon Do training. In that regard, this expert spin kicker embodies ancient martial arts performed within the cage. Of course, he couldn’t achieve with just his Tae Kwon Do training. But a significant part of his arsenal is his wrestling ability, which gives him excellent takedown defense.
Le has also been known to occasionally knock opponents to the ground, even if he doesn’t generally follow them there. Since his fights don’t frequently end up on the ground for very long, it is difficult to assess his submissions and submit defense.
