Nielsen made her debut in the feature film world with the French film Par où t’es rentré? starring Jerry Lewis. In 1984, she appeared in the film On t’a pas vu sortir, and in 1988, she had a role in the Italian miniseries Colletti Bianchi. Both the Italian film “Vacanze di Natale ’91” (1991) and the French film “Le Paradis Absolument” (1991) included her as an actress.
She began her career in acting by performing in local revues and variety shows alongside her mother when she was younger. At the age of 18, she moved to Paris, France, where she worked as an actress and model. This led to additional employment and study opportunities in Italy, specifically at a theatre school in Rome and in master courses with Lydia Styx, a teacher at the Piccolo Teatro di Milano in Milan. She spent a good portion of her life in Italy before making the move to the United States, which is where she has been since her arrival.
She relocated to the United States in the middle of the 1990s and made her debut in a big English-language film in 1997, appearing opposite Al Pacino and Keanu Reeves in The Devil’s Advocate under the name Christabella Andreoli. This first teeny-tiny bit of success led to appearances in the movies Permanent Midnight (1998), Rushmore (1998), and Soldier (1998).
Nielsen made her debut in the film Gladiator, directed by Ridley Scott and starring opposite Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix in the same year, 2000. Since then, she has starred in a number of films produced in the United States, such as Mission to Mars (2000), One Hour Photo (2002), The Hunted (2003), and Basic (2003), for which she was required to shave off a significant portion of her hair. In addition, Olivier Assayas directed her in the French suspense film Demonlover (2002), in which she also starred. In the movie “A Shine of Rainbows,” she had the role of an Irish mother to an orphan.
Lars Ulrich, a drummer for Metallica and a Dane like Nielsen, was her boyfriend from 2004 till 2012. Together, they have raised one child, a son named Bryce Thadeus Ulrich-Nielsen. She was previously in a relationship with Fabio Sartor, and as a result, she is the mother of an older boy named Sebastian Sartor. Sebastian was born on November 27, 1989 in Rome, Italy.
Nielsen made her debut in the Danish film industry in 2004 with the drama Brdre (also known as Brothers), for which she was awarded the Bodil, which is the Danish equivalent of the Best Actress Award, as well as the award for Best Actress at the San Sebastian International Film Festival.
