About Victoria Osteen
American novelist Victoria Osteen, co-pastor of Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas, was born on March 28, 1961. She resided close to Marshall Space Flight Center, where her father, Donald Iloff, a mathematician employed by General Electric, was a member of the group working on GE’s Saturn rocket project under the direction of Wernher von Braun of Germany.
She is John Osteen’s daughter-in-law as well as Joel Osteen‘s wife.
When Osteen was only two years old, her family relocated to Houston, Texas, as a result of her father taking a job with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). She was raised in a Houston suburb in the southeast, close to the Manned Spacecraft Center (now known as the Johnson Space Center).
Osteen’s father was a deacon and her mother, Georgine Iloff, taught Sunday school at the Church of Christ in the neighborhood where she grew up. Osteen worked in her mother’s jewelry store while attending the University of Houston (though she did not complete her degree there). She studied psychology there. She first met Joel Osteen in 1985 when he entered the jewelry store to get a new watch battery.
In 2003, Osteen established the Lakewood Church Women’s Ministry, which she now co-pastores. Her portion of the service is accessible via a live Internet feed and an hour-long program airing on the Daystar Television Network.
Following a $3,000 fine from the FAA, Sharon Brown, a flight attendant, sued Osteen in civil court for $405,000 in damages. This was relating to an alleged “shoving”. In August 2008, a Houston jury exonerated Osteen of all civil liability after the foreman of the panel referred to the action as a waste of time.
