About Blueface

Born Jonathan Jamal Porter on January 20th 1997, in Los Angeles California, the American rapper, now known as Blueface, is famous for his offbeat style of rapping. Growing up in Mid-City in central Los Angeles, the future rapper attended several elementary schools before eventually taking up residence with his mother in Santa Clarita Valley, and later his Father in Oakland. Porter joined the marching band while attending Arleta High School, playing alto saxophone.

American rapper and songwriter Blueface has an estimated net worth of $4 million dollars, as of 2023. Blueface became famous after afterreleasing the music video for his song “Respect My Cryppin'” which went viral in 2018.

At six feet four and weighing one hundred and sixty pounds, he was the perfect build for a quarterback. He took up the role in 2014 and had an impressive season leading the team to the championship with some impressive stats. After briefly playing college football with Fayetteville University, he left in 2016. His time as a quarterback was later referenced in a video (Thotiana Remix), where he portrays a young quarterback who has no respect for his coach, his interests instead focused on chasing fame, fortune, and women.

Showing an interest in rap music at an early age, Blueface as he was later known, mainly listened to artists like Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, and The Game. Going under the name Blueface Bleedem, the artist began rapping in January 2017. He started the work to get his first song ‘Deadlocs’ released onto the European online distribution platform, SoundCloud. June 2018 saw the release of his first project when Famous Cryp was released.

After the success of both the single and the EP, which gained him a local following in California, a follow-up EP got released in September 2018, Two Coccy, released on SoundCloud and Spotify. Respect My Crpyn came next on October 8th 2018, and the music video became a viral meme after firstly being released on the WorldStarHipHop YouTube channel and shortly after being posted on Twitter. Following the success of the video, the rap artists’ other songs, “Next Big Thing” and “Thotiana” began to grow in popularity. The artist got his rewards, with Cash Money Records signing him in November 2018.

Taking advantage of his new-found popularity, December 2018 saw Blueface release an acoustic video featuring American ukelele player and platinum producer, Einer Bankz, previewing his new song, ‘Bleed It,’ which was officially released in January 2019. The video, like the previous hit, went viral and the song, when released on the Lyrical Lemonade YouTube channel, gained over two million views within twenty-four hours.

The first track of the artists’ career to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, came in at number seventy-five on January 26th 2019. The track, Thotiana, was later released as a remix along with a video, featuring American rapper YG. Another YouTube success came on May 1st 2019, with the release of the music video for his single, “Stop Cappin.” which had over five million views over the first four days.

‘Dirt Bag’ was released in August 2019. The EP, which consisted of eight tracks, featured appearances from, Rich the Kid, The Game, Offset, Mozzy and Lil Pump. Three singles followed, with ‘Daddy’ and ‘Stop Cappin’ gaining relative chart success. Featuring Rich The Kid, Daddy peaked at number seventy-eight in the Billboard Hot 100, and Stop Cappin, with The Game, made it to number fifteen on the Bubbling Under Hot 100. The EP peaked at number forty-eight on the Billboard two hundred.

The project might have gained good commercial success, but the critical reviews it received were not the sort the rapper would have hoped for. HipHop DX’s Riley Wallace rated it at only three out of five, while their listeners were even more critical rating it just over two out of five. Album of the year gave it just sixty out of a hundred. Critics once again got stuck into the rapper when he released his first studio album, Find the Beat. The album, due to be released on October 11th 2019 was delayed on two occasions and finally came out on March 13th, 2020.

Despite the sometimes critical reviews of his music from some quarters, the professional rapper has amassed a fortune of an estimated $4 million over the last five years. And considering he has only been famous for about half that time; it’s nothing short of amazing. With huge viewing figures over several platforms, including YouTube and Instagram, the young rappers financial success comes as no surprise.

When it comes to streams, Blueface is at the forefront of the game. To date, the twenty-three-year-old has amassed over two billion of them across several platforms. This has earned the rapper platinum certifications as well as endorsements from the New York Times, Ice Cube, Kendrick Lamar and Pitchfork. The track, “Daddy”, taken from the EP Dirt Bag saw ninety-seven streams on Spotify alone.

Blueface’s first chart entry, Thotiana gained Gold certification in Italy and New Zealand, and it’s one million-plus sales in the United States gave it platinum status. The single charted in over fifteen countries worldwide, including peaking at number eight in the US Billboard Hot 100.

Blueface’s Total Net Worth

Leaving behind a football scholarship to pursue a career in the music business, goes to show how the young rappers’ self-belief and determination has got him to where he is today. Coming from a poor background where he could barely make ends meet, would give anyone an added incentive to push for success, Blueface was no exception. He knew what he wanted and decided to leave the lucrative game of football behind to pursue his dream of becoming a successful rapper.

The one attribute that stands out above any other though has to be his uniqueness. He has his own original flavor, and by his own admission, he is not trying to be like anyone else. From his work in the music industry he had career earnings of an estimated $9.5 million dollars. He will have had to pay tax on that amount, of course.

With earnings like his, and living and working in California, it is estimated that Blueface’s effective tax rate has been an overall 47% on his earnings. That is even after legal tax considerations and tax deductibles. After taxes, it is likely that Blueface will have had earnings in the region of $5.04 million, having paid $4.46 million dollars in taxes.

Blueface has never been married and so he has not gone through any costly divorces. He has one child, Javaughn J. Porter. In his personal life there have been some illegal events surrounding him, including crimes that he has been involved in. When Blueface got held up at a gas station, he managed to draw a firearm of his own and shot at the would-be thief’s SUV. Blueface was subsequently arrested for the event; charged with having been the one who fired.

While it is unclear how this has affected his financial life, it seems probable that there has been less time managing his wealth than those who are not so close to criminal events. What is more, Blueface was reported to have been “standing on top of a black SUV and throwing cash into a crowd of people in Skid Row”. While this is charitable of him, it is these types of events that ultimately impact an individual’s wealth.

Overall, it is estimated that Blueface may have a net worth of about $4 million dollars.

Summing-Up

From a potential future star of American football to a sure-fire star of rap, this charismatic and confident young rapper is seemingly heading in only one direction. The offbeat style that the twenty-three-year-old is renowned for will no doubt hold him in good stead for years to come. As his music sales grow, and future accolades start to roll in, his popularity along with his bank balance is only going to grow.
