About Uncle Kracker
On June 6, 1974, Shafer was born in Mount Clemens, Michigan. He went to a nightclub in Clawson, Michigan, with his brother Mike Shafer to see a turntables competition. His older brother was competing against Kid Rock, a musician who was unknown at the time. Shafer and Kid Rock quickly become close. He was mainly rapping at the time. His high school was L’Anse Creuse.

Shafer thought it was time to put out his debut solo album, Double Wide, in 2000 after the publication of Rock’s multi-platinum album, The History of Rock.
Uncle Kracker’s debut solo record was titled Double Wide. It was released on June 30, 2000, and is Shafer’s most popular and best-selling album. It reached at Number 7 on the Billboard 200 album list. Kid Rock produced the album, with Michael Bradford adding extra mixing production. “Follow Me” a song co-written with Bradford that reached its highest position of Number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in June 2001, was the album’s first single.
After performing extensively to promote the debut album, he started to write songs for a follow-up. On August 27, 2002, the album No Stranger to Shame was made available. On the Billboard albums chart, the album peaked at number 43. Dobie Gray appeared as a guest vocalist on the hit single “Drift Away” a rendition of his Top 5 hit from 1973. One week to the day after Gray turned 63, Kracker’s rendition of this song reached its Hot 100 peak at No. 9. It also set a record for the longest weeks spent at No. 1 on the Adult Contemporary chart, spending 28 nonconsecutive weeks there.
Shafer started creating his third album, which he called Seventy Two and Sunny, after finishing his tour. His first album without a parental advisory label and the first without any hip-hop songs transitioned to a pure country style. Two songs from the album were released: “Rescue” which only peaked at No. 20 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary singles list and failed to chart anywhere else.
Happy Hour is the fourth studio album from Uncle Kracker.
The album’s five-year wait was caused by Atlantic Records’ choice to hire Rob Cavallo as producer just as they were wrapping up their cut of the album in late 2007. Shafer was detained in 2007 on suspicion of a second-degree sex crime and released after posting a $75,000 bond. He was given a year of probation after entering a guilty plea to a less serious offense.
Happy Hour: The South River Road Sessions, a six-song EP, was made available on June 22, 2010. Country versions of songs from the Happy Hour album are included on the EP. The singles were Kid Rock’s “Smile” and a reworking of “Good to Be Me”
Uncle Kracker’s fifth studio album, Midnight Special, which was produced by Keith Stegall, was made available on November 16, 2012. The album was issued by Sugar Hill Records and Vanguard Records on behalf of Welk Music Group. Kracker’s newest song, “Floatin'” and related music video were made available on August 10th.
The Sharp Dressed Simple Man Tour, which will feature Uncle Kracker, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and ZZ Top, is scheduled to launch in West Palm Beach on July 21, 2023, and end in Camden on September 17, 2023.
