About King Von
Dayvon Daquan Bennett, better known as King Von, was a professional rapper from Chicago, Illinois and had contracts with Empire Distribution and Lil Durk‘s record company, Only the Family. King Von debuted his track “Crazy Story” in 2018, and it quickly became his breakthrough song after fellow rapper Lil Durk signed him to his Only the Family (formerly known as Only Trey Folks) label. 2019’s Valentine’s Day saw the release of a music video by rapper Asian Doll for her song “Grandson,” which features Von.
Due to his father’s incarcerations, his mother was primarily responsible for raising him. Von’s father was shot and died when he was 11 years old. Later, Von would honor his father in a number of songs, most notably in the song “Exposing Me.”
Von spent his first time behind bars at the age of 16. In connection with a shooting in which Malcolm Stuckey was murdered and two other people were injured, he was charged in 2014 with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder.
Of all charges, he was cleared. He started concentrating on his musical career and working with Lil Durk. Von attended South Suburban College in South Holland, Illinois, where he received some college credits, prior to his imprisonment for the alleged crimes. While incarcerated as a minor, he completed his GED. He then became a member of the street gang known as the Black Disciples.
Bennett and Lil Durk, actual name Durk Derrick Banks, were detained in June 2019 in connection with an Atlanta shooting. In a Fulton County courthouse, Bennett and his co-defendant Banks stood before the judge for a probable cause hearing. In February, 2019, near a well-known drive-in, the two rappers allegedly robbed and shot Alexander Witherspoon, according to the prosecution. Durk was released from jail after several weeks on a $250,000 bond, while Von was freed on a $300,000 bond.
On November 6, 2020, King Von was shot multiple times and eventually succumb to his wounds after being transferred to a nearby hospital. He was 26 years old. His management group issued What It Means to Be King, his first posthumous album, on March 4, 2022.
