Gardner was a cast member on the first season of the reality television series The Real World, which aired on MTV and was taped in New York from the 16th of February through the 18th of May, 1992. The series was titled The Real World: New York. The first episode of the series aired on May 21 of that year. She was portrayed on the show as a hip-hop musician who was a member of the group Boogie Down Productions and was on the cusp of earning her big break in the music industry.
In 1995, Gardner was given a record deal by Pendulum Records. At the time, she was a member of the rap group Boogie Down Productions. Her debut album, titled Takin’ Mine, was released the next year in 1996. Both the lead song “All Glocks Down” and the follow-up track “If Headz Only Knew” were played on the radio. “All Glocks Down” is a hymn against gun violence.
Peaches was Heather’s character in the 1995 film Dead Presidents, in which she had a supporting part. In 1997, Gardner got a recording contract with MCA Records, and the following year, she issued the single “Do You,” which received a significant amount of playing on both television and radio. Her second studio album, titled Eternal Affairs, was released by Gardner in 2002 and featured production from Pete Rock and DJ Premier. In spite of the album’s failure to chart on Billboard, it received generally favorable reviews.
In addition to her career as a musician, Gardner has made appearances in a number of projects and television specials that are associated with The Real World. In addition, she made an appearance in the film The Wedding Video, which was directed by former cast member of Real World Norman Korpi. In 2005, she also appeared in a television commercial for anti-virus software sold by America Online. DJ Premier served as an executive producer for the third studio album released by Gardner, titled Open Bar.
Since the year 2012, Gardner has been serving alongside Sway Calloway, a formerly employed reporter for MTV, as a co-host on the radio program Sway in the Morning broadcast on Sirius Satellite Radio.
Both Heather B. and Sway Calloway had guest appearances in the twelfth episode of Marvel’s Luke Cage, titled “Soliloquy of Chaos,” which aired in 2016. Their roles consisted of interviewing Method Man about being rescued by Luke Cage during a holdup of a Harlem bodega.
In the 2018 film Death Wish, starring Bruce Willis, she had a role as herself. In the film B-Boy Blues, directed by Jussie Smollett and released in 2021, she played the role of Aunt Ruth. This film is an adaptation of James Earl Hardy’s novel series of the same name.
