About David Phelps
David Norris Phelps is an American singer, songwriter and vocal arranger best known for singing tenor in the Gaither Vocal Band. In addition, he has published a number of solo albums, including four Christmas CDs. Phelps represented the Woodhouse family on Extreme Makeover Home Edition on January 13, 2008.
Phelps was raised in Tomball, Texas, and earned his high school diploma there in 1988. He studied music and vocal performance at Baylor University, where he also served as director of the Baylor Religious Hour Choir, and received his degree in 1992.
From 1997 to 2005 and again from 2009 to 2017, Phelps was a member of the Gaither Vocal Band. From 2009 until 2017, he and Wes Hampton performed together as the tenor. He departed the band in the beginning of 2017 to concentrate on his solo career. Reggie Smith came in to take his place. With the Gaither Vocal Band, Phelps has won twelve Dove Awards, been nominated for four Grammy Awards, and had multiple platinum-selling recordings. PBS has broadcast his most recent Classic. In a 2019 commercial for Google’s Pixel smartphone, Phelps’ song “Catching Santa” from his album It Must Be Christmas was played.
