About Carlos Santana
Early in his career, he was a founding member of the Latin band Santana, which took its name from his family name. He has recorded a number of CDs under his own name as a solo artist. His first studio album, Love Devotion Surrender, was a collaboration with John McLaughlin, and his second album, Illuminations, was a collaboration with Alice Coltrane. Both of these albums were released relatively early in his career.
After that, he embarked on a career as a solo artist, releasing a total of four studio albums, two of which were distributed under the moniker “Devadip Carlos Santana” His most recent studio album, which was titled Santana Brothers and was published in 2016, was a joint effort between his nephew Carlos Hernandez and his brother Jorge Santana.
His father, a mariachi musician, taught him how to play the violin when he was five years old, and then he taught him how to play the guitar when he was eight years old. Jorge, who was much younger than he, too followed in his footsteps and became a skilled guitarist. At a time when there were very few Mexicans involved in American rock music, Ritchie Valens served as a significant inspiration for Santana. The family relocated from Autlán to Tijuana, which is located close to the border with the United States of America. Santana was established in 1967 in San Francisco under the name Carlos Santana Blues Band at the time of the band’s inception. In the beginning, the band consisted of Carlos Santana (lead guitar), Tom Fraser (rhythm guitar), Sergio “Gus” Rodriguez (bass guitar), Gregg Rolie (Hammond organ and lead vocals), Michael Carabello (percussion), and Danny Haro (percussion). Tom Fraser played rhythm guitar, Sergio “Gus” Rodriguez played bass guitar, and Tom Fraser played lead guitar (drums).
Two years later, in 1970, the band played at the Woodstock festival, which marked the beginning of their success. The amplifiers include a Mesa Boogie Mark I, a Dumble Overdrive Reverb, and a Bludotone amplifier that was added more recently. Santana likens the tonal properties of each amplifier to the head/nasal tones, chest tones, and belly tones produced by a singer. On the pedal board that Carlos uses, there is a three-way amp switcher installed so that he may switch between different amplifiers. Quite frequently, the distinctive tones of multiple amplifiers are combined in order to produce a single, more complex tone. This process is known as “blending.”
Deborah King, whose father was the blues guitarist Saunders King, was his wife from 1973 until 2007. Their marriage lasted until 2007. They have three children named Salvador, Stella, and Angelica, and they co-founded a non-profit organization called the Milagro (Miracle) Foundation. This foundation offers financial assistance for educational, medical, and other needs. After 34 years of marriage, in 2007, King filed for divorce, claiming that the couple could not resolve their disagreements.
