Vincent Neil is a highly popular lead singer for the heavy metal band, Mötley Crüe. What’s more, the artist has had several successful solo albums as well. Vince Neil is best known for his contributions to heavy metal, yet he has also earned a reputation for being entangled with the law, as well. Neil’s trials and tribulations living the rock star lifestyle are stuff of legend and controversy. In the Netflix biopic, The Dirt, Vince Neil’s lifestyle seemed to be one where issues with the law, alcohol and drugs were destined to never be too far behind.
Mötley Crüe is an American heavy metal band that was formed in 1981. The group was comprised of Vincent Neil on vocals, Nikki Sixx on bass, Tommy Lee on drums, and Mick Mars on lead guitar. With over 100 million albums sold worldwide, the band has enjoyed 7 platinum and multi-platinum certifications for their music. This along with having nine Top 10 albums on the Billboards Top 200, six Top 20 pop hit and twenty-two Top 40 rock hits, it’s easy to see why Mötley Crüe has become a household name.
Neil himself, however, seemingly became more (in)famous for his time outside of the band than within it. The rest of the band members fired Neil from Mötley Crüe in 1992 allegedly because of Neil’s drinking habits, yet there were more stories besides. As the released story goes Neil was letting his drinking get ahead of him, causing him to not be in attendance for band-related activities like rehearsals and group meets. At the time the band felt that Neil was more interested in the “rockstar lifestyle” rather than the music, and on those grounds, Neil parted ways with the group.
Legal issues have been an almost non-stop theme in Neil’s life. Starting in 1984 where Neil was jailed for vehicular manslaughter of Hanoi Rocks drummer Nicholas “Razzle” Dingley for driving under the influence of alcohol, according to LA Times.
Vince Neil had to pay $2.5 million to settle this, according to Ultimate Classic Rock. Then in 2002 police arrested Neil for assaulting record producer Michael Schuman. In 2003 they arrested Neil for allegedly assaulting a sex worker from the Moonlight Bunny Ranch. In 2004 police issued an arrest warrant for a misdemeanor assault after Neil allegedly assaulting a soundman, according to Daily Mail. In 2007 and 2010, Neil was arrested on suspicion of drink driving incidents. In December 2015, Neil, along with Rockstar Investment Group president Mark Daniels and vice president Robert Hewko, were sued by Sohrob Farudi for fraud over a $500,000 investment towards the Las Vegas Outlaws arena football team, according to Loudwire.
In 2016 Neil was allegedly in an altercation with a fan in Las Vegas which eventually caused Nicolas Cage to jump in and restrain him. We have no first hand knowledge about any of the alleged incidents that Vince Neil is said to have been implicated in. However if much of what we’ve read is true, Vince Neil has had some definite ups and downs in his life. But perhaps with the stress of becoming a world-famous celebrity combined with living the rockstar lifestyle a little too much, caused Vince to act in a way that he otherwise wouldn’t have.
We don’t think his legal troubles or anything else for that matter, takes away from his genius as a lead vocalist and frontman. His troubles may be to do with some kind of existential angst that so many great artists seem to suffer from. Perhaps that is why they push so hard and achieve so much but hey, that is likely also what makes them great.
With the bounty of success that Neil enjoyed through Mötley Crüe, the frontman benefited greatly from the success. Vince Neil’s net worth is estimated to be almost all attributed to his music career and most specifically as a member of the Mötley Crüe.

It’s clear to us that Vince Neil was a key component to the band’s initial launch and early traction.
