About Big Boi
Big Boi made the announcement that he was going to record a true solo album in 2007, after the release of Idlewild, which was the sixth official OutKast duo album. Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty was the first “full-fledged” solo album released by OutKast member Lucious Left, despite the fact that Speakerboxxx was considered by many to be a solo album. However, the album was published under the OutKast name. The first promotional single for the album was titled “Royal Flush” and it was released in 2007. Raekwon and André 3000 were featured on the track.
While Patton was a student at Tri-Cities High School, he became acquainted with André Lauren Benjamin, better known by his stage name André 3000. In 1992, the two began working together as Outkast and landed a record deal with LaFace Records.
Patton’s grandmother was the one who sparked his interest in music and introduced him to his first 45 songs, when he and his siblings went with her to the store to buy them. He went on to say that he owes his exposure to a wider range of musical styles and genres to his uncle, notably to the work of Kate Bush, who he has referred to as his favorite performer.
After the release of four albums that were met with critical acclaim, Big Boi and André 3000 decided to each record a solo project and then combine them for release as a double album under the Outkast moniker in 2003 under the title Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. Big Boi recorded Speakerboxxx, and André 3000 recorded The Love Below. Speakerboxxx utilized a style that was comparable to Outkast’s earlier efforts, whilst The Love Below explored a region that was more unconventional, with André 3000 primarily singing rather than his typical rapping.
Big Boi has distributed as independent singles two of his songs. The song “The Way You Move” which featured Sleepy Brown, was initially popular on urban radio, but it eventually made its way to the top of the pop charts, where it unseated André 3000’s “Hey Ya!” as the most popular track. Big Boi’s second single was titled “Ghetto Musick” and it featured appearances from both members of Outkast, in addition to a sample taken from Patti LaBelle‘s song “Love, Need and Want You”.
In November of 2005, Big Boi collaborated with the Purple Ribbon All-Stars to make a mixtape/compilation album titled Got Purp? Vol 2. This album was distributed by Purple Ribbon Records. The song “Kryptonite” was the debut single taken from the album, and it peaked at number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100. In addition, Outkast was featured on the song “International Players Anthem (I Choose You)” which was the first single released from Underground Kingz, the album by UGK.
In 2006, he made his debut in the acting world of feature films, with appearances in ATL and Idlewild. The following year, he played the lead part in Who is Your Caddy? On November 18, 2008, he appeared in the episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit titled “Wildlife” which was broadcast on television. Gots Money is a hip hop artist, and Big Boi portrayed him. Creepshow is a web television series that features a horror anthology, and Big Boi appeared in one of the episodes.
In 2006, Big Boi established the Big Kidz Foundation, a charitable organization with the mission of assisting the city’s youngsters. The objective of the Foundation is to foster culturally diversified experiences in the sphere of the humanities while also working for the development of youngsters who are socially conscious. The Big Kidz Foundation was established in Savannah, Georgia, in January of 2010, by Big Boi and Jennifer Shephard Lester, who serves as the organization’s executive director.
Big Boi and Janice Faison Ahmed established Celebrity Trailers in 2009 as a recreational vehicle (RV) rental business catering to professionals working in the film, entertainment, and sports industries. Big Boi was one of the founders of the company.
During an interview that took place in July 2010 for The Village Voice, Big Boi said that he was working on the follow-up album to Sir Lucious Left Foot, which would be named Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors. He stated that he was “maybe about six songs into it” at the time of the interview.

In August of 2011, Patton was on his way back from a cruise when a drug dog working for the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement at the Port of Miami alerted the authorities. After posting a bond of $16,000, Patton was allowed to leave the Miami-Dade County jail.
In the latter part of the year 2012, Big Boi disclosed that he had penned ten tracks for his upcoming third studio album. In January of 2014, he stated once again that he intended to release a new studio album. In 2014, Big Boi inked a record deal with Epic Records after previously having signed a management deal with Jordan Feldstein’s Career Artist Management.
Big Boi announced the title of his third studio album, which would be titled Boomiverse, on April 19, 2017. He also announced that two songs from the album, titled “Mic Jack” (which featured Adam Levine) and “Kill Jill” (which featured Killer Mike and Jeezy), would be released the following day.
Big Boi became a member of L.A. Reid and Charles Goldstuck’s new record company, Hitco Music, in the year 2018. Big Boi gave a performance at the halftime show of the Super Bowl LIII in 2019.
He, along with other musicians, was attacked for agreeing to take part in the event despite the protests against the playing of the United States national anthem by Colin Kaepernick and other people. Big Boi made the announcement in November 2021 that he had recorded a song with the British singer-songwriter Kate Bush. A new television commercial for realtor.com debuted in early 2022 with a clip of the rapper Big Boi congratulating a young couple on their purchase of their first “Big Boi House.” In the 30-second and 44-second commercials, the Atlanta rapper is seen escorting a couple through their new home while making comments about the “Big Boi kitchen,” the “Big Boi vaulted ceilings,” and the “Big Boi school district.” The campaign is the first one that Big Boi has done since he appeared in a commercial for the NFL and Pepsi Max in 2011. It features his hit “The Way You Move,” which was released in 2003.
