In 1960, Roache landed his life-role on Coronation Street. He has been the part of the show since it’s premiere in December 1960. As of January 2020, the soap opera has aired more than 10 thousand episodes, which gained it the title of the longest-running TV soap opera in the world.

Unfortunately in 2013 William Roache was charged with assault and rape of a 15-year-old girl in 1967, according to The Guardian. However despite this, on 6 February 2014, Roache was found not guilty on all charges.
During the accusations, an image of Ken Barlow had been removed from the Madame Tussauds waxwork exhibition in Blackpool due to fears it might be vandalized. The waxwork was returned to the exhibition in February 2014 following Roache’s acquittal. Roache resumed filming on Coronation Street in June 2014, and returned to the screen on 4 August of that year.
Roache was married twice. First with Anna Cropper from 1961 to 1974. They had two children together, son Linus who is an actor and daughter Vanya. In 1978, he married his second spouse, Sarah Mottram. The couple had a daughter “Verity” and son “James”. They also had a second daughter, Edwina, but she died at the age of 18 months. From 2010 to 2012, Roache was in a relationship with Emma Jesson.
