About Tiki Barber
Barber received a scholarship to attend the University of Virginia, where he studied commerce for his undergraduate degree. Barber was able to keep his academic focus while still becoming a successful collegiate athlete. He set the record for the long jump at the University of Virginia on his very first attempt, and he helped put the school’s football team back on the map.
He had an unremarkable first season in which he started at running back, carried for 511 yards, and scored three touchdowns. This was the beginning of his career in the NFL. Due to a knee injury, Barber was sidelined for four games, but he was able to make his way back into the starting lineup for the final two games of the season. He was taken out of the starting lineup in 1998 and endured a disappointing and injury-plagued year before making a comeback in 1999, when he amassed 1,639 all-purpose yards by exploiting his skills as a punt returner and receiver.
Since his breakout season in 2000, Barber has been noted for his great cutback running, fast feet, and running vision. This reputation dates back to the beginning of his career.
