The Lox started rapping as a group in the middle of the 1990s and, as a result of their live shows and street freestyles, began to develop a dedicated following in the underground music scene. After meeting Mary J. Blige when they were in their late teens, the three gave their demo to Sean “Diddy” Combs because she was impressed with the lyrical nature of their music.

After hearing their work, Diddy quickly engaged the three individuals to write for Bad Boy Records. The Lox gained fast prominence and stature within the hip-hop and mainstream charts after signing with Bad Boy and beginning to collaborate on singles with Diddy, the Notorious B.I.G., Mary J. Blige, and Mariah Carey as soon as they started working with these artists.

David Styles was born on November 28, 1974, in Corona, Queens, New York City, to a Jamaican mother from Bed-Stuy and a South African father. His mother was from South Africa, while his father was from Jamaica. Styles and his younger brother Gary relocated to Yonkers with their mother after the divorce of their parents. In 2010, the Random House Publishing Group was responsible for the publication of Styles P’s debut novel, titled Invincible. In the year 2011, he collaborated with his business colleagues Nyger Rollocks and Leo Galvez to launch a juice shop in the Bronx, New York, which they named Juices for Life. Styles David: Ghost Your Enthusiasm, the thirteenth studio album released by Styles P, was made available for purchase on May 22, 2020. In February of 2022, he was given a role in the documentary series Everything’s Gonna Be All White, which was produced by Showtime and broadcast on that network.
