Richard was born 11 October 1932 in Vienna, Austria. His construction business started with filling stations and progressed to bigger buldings. In 1990, he build himself own shopping mall that he named Lugner City. His wealth and fame kept growing.
Lugner is often in media, especially when he pays various hot female celebrities to be his date on annual Vienna Opera Ball. In the past, he invited for example Claudia Cardinale, Paris Hilton, and Dita von Teese. In 2014, Kim Kardashian accepted his offer and accompanied him on this high-society ball.
In 2014, Lugner married young Playboy model Cathy Schmitz. It was his fifth marriage. This was also widely publicized, especially for their huge age gap between the newlyweds. They later divorced in 2016.
