About Rich Piana
Rich Piana was an American (stunt) actor, bodybuilder, businessman, and writer that began his bodybuilding career in the late 1990s. Until his death, in 2017, he was able to win multiple NPC titles and competitions. He was one of the most famous and controversial bodybuilders in America that publicly admitted to using anabolic steroids, insulin, and human growth hormone. Apart from his two professions, Piana was also a YouTube personality that uploaded vlogs on his channel.
Piana gained national recognition after winning the popular NPC competition Mister Teen California. He was born on September 26, 1970, in Glendale, California. He’s of Italian (through his father) and Armenian (through his mother) ancestry. His family moved to Sacramento where he began his enthralment with the bodybuilding only he was just six years old. He attended the Encina Preparatory High School and received his diploma in 1988.
Long before that, he began practicing at the gym on a regular basis so he could train for bodybuilding contests. At the age of eleven, he began weightlifting and four years later, he started participating in bodybuilding contests. During his senior year in high school, he lived with his father in La Crescenta. By the time he turned eighteen, Rich was already a winner of several titles, with the most notable being Mr. Teen California from 1989.
Winning titles and competitions not just in the NPC (National Physique Committee) but in many other bodybuilding organizations is how Rich Piana became a millionaire. After winning the 1989 and 1998 competitions, he was named the NPC Mr. California.
Throughout the next two decades, the 1990s and 2000s, he continued to win multiple competitions and championships by scoring top-notch results. He won the NPC competitions as part of the 2003 Los Angeles Super Heavyweight as well as the 2009 Sacramento and Border States Super-Heavyweight divisions. He also graced the covers of magazines Ironman, Muscle Sport, and UK Beef.
By the early 2000s, Piana had already earned an estimated $500,000 or more from his professional bodybuilding and related. He also began working in the film industry as a stunt actor. The first film that he had a stint role in is Planet of the Apes from 2001. A few years later, he landed supporting roles in the television series Scrubs and Malcolm in the Middle.
