About Reggie White
In the 1980s and 1990s, Reginald Howard White, an American football player, played defensive end for 15 seasons in the National Football League. He was an All-American college football player for the University of Tennessee.
Throughout his career, which began in 1984 with the Memphis Showboats of the USFL and continued with the Philadelphia Eagles, Green Bay Packers, and Carolina Panthers of the NFL, Reggie White, a two-time NFL defensive player of the year, frightened professional quarterbacks. White had the league’s all-time sack record (198) when he retired in 2001 and had been nominated to a league-record 13 consecutive Pro Bowls.
White was one of the best defensive ends to ever play the game, if not the best. Just one sack separated him from Mark Gastineau’s then-record single-season total of 21, which he achieved in 1987. But what’s astounding is that he did it in just 12 games during a season that was cut short by a strike.
His departure from Philadelphia was brought on by negative feelings toward the organization’s administration, and his 1993 signing as a free agent in Green Bay served as the impetus for the team’s turnaround after years of mediocrity.
