How Did Redman Get So Rich?
Consistently releasing chart-topping and gold/platinum-certified (solo and collaborative) albums is what made this rapper so rich. In the early 1990s, during the time he was just starting to work as a disc jockey, he was using the name DJ Kut-Killa. He slowly began freest lying over hip hop and funk instrumentals around the New York and New Jersey areas. Eventually, he was discovered by Erick Sermon of the duo EPMD. He then began producing his own records and toured across the states with Sermon.
In late 1991, Redman secured a deal with the label Rush Associated Labels (now known as Def Jam) and instantly became one of the best-selling artists of the label. A year later, in September 1992 he released his debut studio album titled “What? The Album”. The album garnered favorable reviews thanks to his humorous lyrics. After exceeding the sales of 500,000 copies in America, it was certified gold by the RIAA. Throughout the rest of the decade, he continued to record and release victorious albums such as “Dare Is a Darkside”, “Muddy Waters”, and “Doc’s the Name 2000”. From all of his music projects by that time, he was able to win more than $500.000.
Why is he so famous?
Redman gained fame after he began his rapping career in the early 1990s and signed with the label Def Jam. Reginald was born on April 17, 1970, in Newark, New Jersey. He’s the first of two children to Eddie and Darlene Noble. He has a younger sister named Rosalyn. Growing up, Reginald always had a passion for hip hop music. He attended the Speedway Avenue and 13th Avenue Schools. Eventually, he was transferred to the West Side High School from which he graduated in 1988.
In the late 1980s, after his high school graduation, he joined the Montclair State University but was expelled from it during his freshman year mainly because of his poor academic performance. He then returned to his family house and began selling cocaine, which is why his mother kicked him out. Two years after that, when he just turned eighteen, Reginald developed the stage name Redman and decided to pursue a rapping career. In addition to attending rap and freestyle battles to learn more, he also began working as a disc jockey at local nightclubs and venues.
What Makes Him So Successful?
Being able to produce music for both himself and other artists while appearing in films, television series, and video games is what makes Redman so successful. At the peak of his career, in the late 1990s, he became an actor. His film debut came in the 1998 film “Ride”, where he had a small role as himself. Over the next few years, he took part in many other films, mostly comedies such as “Backstage”, “How High”, “Stung”, “Scary Movie 3”, “The Seed of Chucky”, and “Rock the Bells”.
Also starting in 1998, Redman formed the rap supergroup “Def Squad” that includes other best-selling artists such as Erick Sermon, Jamal, Keith Murray, and Hurricane G. So far, they have released only one studio album titled “El Nino” from June that year. In 1999, he decided to form a duo with his close friend Method Man – “Method Man and Redman”. The two have produced three commercially successful albums together – “Blackout”, “How High”, and “Blackout 2”, that have sold millions of copies in America and earned gold, platinum, and silver certifications. Apart from creating films, the rapper and record producer has starred in several television shows and “Def Jam” video games.
When it comes to rappers that emerged from the 1990s and quickly became superstars, Redman is certainly one of them. He first began his career as a DJ and immediately switched his attention to hop music. For the past three decades, he has earned himself more than $10 million from his work as an actor, rapper, and record producer.
