Gordon was highly regarded as a potential first-round pick for the Major League Baseball draft that took place in 2014. The Minnesota Twins chose him with the fifth choice in the first round, which was the overall selection. On June 9, he signed a contract with the Twins, and he was awarded a signing bonus of $3.851 million. He was given a position with the Elizabethton Twins, where he hit.294 with one home run and 28 RBIs in his total games played.
In Orlando, Florida’s Olympia High School, Gordon received his secondary education. In 2013, he was the best baseball player in the state of Florida according to the Gatorade awards. As a batsman, he had a batting average of.505 with two home runs and 30 runs batted in. As a pitcher, he had a record of 5–1 with an earned run average (ERA) of 0.78, 44 strikeouts in 35+2/3 innings thrown, and five saves. As a senior, he played in all 28 games for his team and batted.512 with 6 home runs and 28 RBIs, guiding his team to the semifinals of the Class 8A regional tournament. He committed to Florida State University by signing a letter of intent to play baseball there.
His father, Tom Gordon, was a professional baseball player from 1988 until 2009 and played in the major leagues. Dee Strange-Gordon, who is his half-brother from his father’s side, also plays in the main leagues.
In 2015, he played for the Cedar Rapids Kernels, where he had a batting average of.277, one home run, 58 RBIs, and 25 stolen bases. In addition, he had 25 stolen bases. In 2016, he was a member of the Fort Myers Miracle, where he recorded a batting average of.291 while playing in 116 games. He also hit three home runs and drove in 52 runs. In 2017, Gordon was a member of the Chattanooga Lookouts, where he posted a batting average of.270, set a career best with nine home runs, and drove in 66 runs.
Gordon started the 2018 season with Chattanooga, where he had a batting average of.333 over 42 games. He was then moved to the Rochester Red Wings of the AAA level, where he had a batting average of.212, two home runs, and 29 RBI over the course of 99 games.
After the conclusion of the 2018 campaign, the Twins included Gordon on their 40-man roster. After the end of spring training, he was sent to Rochester as his new team’s assignment.
