Famous entrepreneur, merchant banker, and investor Michael Wekerle became famous thanks to his appearance on Canadian reality television show Dragon’s Den where he starred as one of the “dragon investors”. He amassed a considerable fortune and his wealth peaked in 2006 at $95 million. As of 2023, his total net worth is approximately $87 million.
How Did Michael Wekerle Get So Rich?
Michael was born in Toronto, Canada. His exact age isn’t publicly known. He studied at York University but never got the college degree. He dropped out and headed for his first job at the Toronto Stock Exchange. Finances, publicly traded shares, and investing were his big passion. he made quite a career and was for example a part in the initial public offering of Research in Motion company (maker of Blackberry smartphones).
In 2014, he accepted the offer to become one of the new investors on reality series Dragon’s Den alongside Vikram Vij. He’s definitely a great addition to the ninth season of this show. He already decided to invest there when he supported the idea for a new line of workwear called Covergalls.
His first wife was Patricia Wekerle. They were married from 1989 til their divorce in 2000. But Wekerle didn’t stay single for a long time. He married his second wife Le-Anne later the same year. However, the happy marriage tragically ended when Le-Anne died of a heart attack in 2010.
