About Mary Steenburgen
In 2007, Steenburgen had a very minor operation on her arm that required a general anesthetic. Shortly after the procedure, she started hearing music playing in her mind day and night. This continued for the next few years. She subsequently enrolled in music classes in order to be able to put on paper what she was hearing, and by the year 2013, she had approximately 50 songwriting credits to her name. On February 8, 1953, Steenburgen was born in Newport, Arkansas, to parents Nellie Mae (née Wall), a school-board secretary, and Maurice Hoffman Steenburgen, a freight-train conductor who worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. Steenburgen’s father was employed by the Missouri Pacific Railroad.
She has a sister who is a teacher and her name is Nancy Kelly (née Steenburgen). In 1971, she made the decision to pursue a degree in theater at Hendrix College. She played Catherine Newman, the quirky and mentally ill mother of the lead character, on the dark sitcom Wilfred from 2011 until 2013. Her appearances spanned from 2011 through 2013.
