About Lisa Loeb
Lisa Loeb was reared in Dallas, Texas, where her parents now live, and was born to a Jewish family in Bethesda, Maryland. Her father, Peter Loeb, was a gastroenterologist, and her mother Gail served as president of the Dallas County Medical Society Alliance and Foundation.
Debbie Loeb, a singer-songwriter, is her younger sister. Lisa first pursued piano study as a child before switching to guitar. She studied at the prestigious, all-girls The Hockaday School. She hosted her own radio show on 88.5 KRSM-FM for two years. This station’s 10-watt license belonged to the neighborhood’s all-boys St. Marks School of Texas. She attended Brown University after completing her high school education in 1986, where she earned a degree in comparative literature in 1990.
At Brown in the middle of the 1980s, Loeb Mitchell and Elizabeth Mitchell started a group called Liz and Lisa, with Duncan Sheik, a future musician and classmate, playing guitar. Independently, the group put out the albums Liz and Lisa (1989) and Liz and Lisa – Days Were Different (1990). Rick Lassiter on bass and Chad Fischer on drums joined the group after college. A few years after graduating from college, Loeb and Mitchell split up after building a following together.
Among Loeb’s voiceover, film, and television credits are guest starring parts in two episodes of Netflix’s Fuller House, including the series finale, and the season finale of Gossip Girl. She also had roles in two other television shows, including Number 1 Single on E! Entertainment Television and Dweezil & Lisa, a weekly cooking show for the Food Network that starred her and Dweezil Zappa. She has also appeared in movies like Helicopter Mom, Fright Night, Hot Tub Time Machine 2, House on Haunted Hill, and many others.
Children’s books and CDs have been produced by Loeb, whose 2016 album Feel What U Feel received the Best Children’s Album Grammy at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards. A Simple Trick to Happiness, Loeb’s most recent album, was published in February 2020.
From 1998 through 2004, Loeb was dating Dweezil Zappa. In 2009, she got married to Roey Hershkovitz, whom she had first met in 2006 at a meeting for a food-related TV show. Lyla Rose and Emet Kuli are the couple’s two kids. Drag queen Alexis Michelle, who resides in New York City, is her cousin and participated in RuPaul’s Drag Race’s ninth season.
Together with Doug Peterson, she created a crossword puzzle for The New York Times, which was released on June 6, 2017.
She also founded a non-profit organization that sends underprivileged kids to summer camp, supported by Loeb’s own organic and fair trade coffee, Wake Up! Brew. She also has her own line of eyewear.
As an audition for a GEICO commercial campaign in 2021, Loeb performed her hit song “Stay.”
