About Lee Thompson Young
In June of 1996, Young made the move to New York City, but it wasn’t until the following year that he tried out for the role of Jett Jackson in the film The Famous Jett Jackson. After filming the show’s pilot, he discovered in June 1998 that the Disney Channel had decided to move forward with producing the series. In June 2001, the show was adapted into a Disney Channel Original Movie. In addition, Young played the role of Sam Sterling in the Disney Channel Original Movie Johnny Tsunami (1999), which was released in 1999. Despite the fact that the film was a commercial success, he did not appear in the following installment, Johnny Kapahala: Back on Board (2007).
Young received a degree with honors in cinematic arts from the University of Southern California, where he was also a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. Young is the son of Velma Elaine (née Love) and Tommy Scott Young, and he was born in the city of Columbia in the state of South Carolina. The marriage that his parents shared came to an end when he was in the second grade, and he moved in with his mother after that. In the play “A Night of Stars and Dreams” written by Dwight Woods and performed at the Phillis Wheatley Repertory Theater in Greenville, South Carolina, he played the role of Martin Luther King Jr. when he was only ten years old. After that, Young made the decision that he wanted to pursue a career in acting.
Following the conclusion of production on The Famous Jett Jackson, Young appeared in many episodes of the CBS show The Guardian. Aside from that, he played the role of Chris Comer in the film Friday Night Lights (2004), and he also had a part in the movie Redemption: The Stan Tookie Williams Story, which was directed by Jamie Foxx (2004). Lee made an appearance on the UPN drama series South Beach, and he also played the role of Victor Stone (also known as Cyborg in DC Comics) in an episode of the television series Smallville from the fifth season in 2006. He later reprised the role of Victor Stone in the episode “Justice” from the sixth season of Smallville, which aired on January 18, 2007, and in the episode “Salvation” from the ninth season finale (airdate May 14, 2010).
Young portrayed Devon, Akeelah’s brother, in the feature film Akeelah and the Bee (2006), in which he made an appearance. In “The Hills Have Eyes 2,” he has the role of Delmar, a National Guard novice (2007). Young appeared on the popular comedy show Scrubs in the role of an arrogant surgical intern in the year 2009. It is revealed that during his childhood he had a weight problem due to being overweight. The character develops romantic feelings for one of the medical interns and gets involved in a relationship with them.
In the ABC television show FlashForward, Young plays the part of an FBI agent named Al Gough. In the seventh episode, his character took his own life in order to spare the life of an innocent bystander, and as a result, he was eliminated from the show. He made a guest appearance on the Fox program The Good Guys as the brother and business partner of an arms dealer. His most recent acting job was as Barry Frost, partner of Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) on the TNT drama Rizzoli & Isles. Prior to that, he played Barry Frost on Rizzoli & Isles.
Rizzoli & Isles was supposed to record an episode about Young’s absence on August 19, 2013, however he did not show up. The police were called to his apartment in Los Angeles to conduct a welfare check on him, but they discovered him dead when they arrived. His management has said that the actor took his own life before passing away. The self-inflicted gunshot wound was determined to be the cause of death by the investigating authorities.
Before he passed away, Young had been suffering from depression and had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, both of which he was taking medicine for. Additionally, he had been prescribed medication for his bipolar disorder.
