About Josh Blue
Many of Blue’s jokes focus on his condition, how he copes with it, and how other people see him because he has cerebral palsy, more specifically spastic hemiplegic cerebral palsy. He made history as the first comedian to perform stand-up on Ellen DeGeneres’s show, and he won the award for Best Winning Reality Show Guest on Live! with Regis and Kelly. He made his late-night television debut on Craig Ferguson’s The Late Late Show, and he has appeared twice on CMT’s Ron White‘s Comedy Salute to the Troops.
Blue’s father, Walter Blue, was a professor of Romance languages at Hamline University, and he was born in Cameroon when his father was on a mission. Blue was born and raised in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and got his start as a comedian while attending The Evergreen State College for a degree in creative writing. In the midst of his university studies, he returned to Africa to work as an intern at the Senegalese zoo Parc de Hahn.
His first television appearance was in an episode of Mind of Mencia, which airs on Comedy Central. Fox, CBS, ABC, MSNBC, and CNN have all covered his story. When his stand-up special, 7 More Days in the Tank, premiered in theaters throughout the country, he made history as the first comic to do so.
Before graduating from The Evergreen State College, Blue performed stand-up comedy at open mic nights. Blue’s reputation as a comedian began to grow as his self-deprecating jokes were well received by audiences. He took first place at the 2002 Comedy Works New Faces competition. He’s been a frequent guest on Mind of Mencia, which airs on Comedy Central. At the 2004 Las Vegas Comedy Festival, Blue won the 2004 Royal Flush Comedy Competition and $10,000.
As a member of the U.S. Paralympic Soccer Team, Josh represented the United States in competition in eight different countries. By failing to score a single goal at the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens, Greece, Josh and his squad brought shame upon themselves and the entire country. He’s a single parent raising his two kids, Simon and Seika, in Colorado’s capital city. His other claim to fame is that he has a girlfriend.
The low-budget horror film Feast III: The Happy Finish, which he was in, came out in 2009. In 2010, viewers of Comedy Central’s Stand-up Comedy Showdown ranked Josh as the thirteenth best comedian. In 2011, Blue was ranked 11th best comedian by viewers of Comedy Central’s Stand-up Comedy Showdown. As the show’s opening act, he was included in Ron White’s 2013 Las Vegas Salute to the Troops. In 2014, Blue was also a part of the cast of the sports comedy 108 Stitches.
For season 16 of America’s Got Talent in 2021, Blue auditioned and received four yeses from the judges.
Following the season’s top two performers, aerialist Aidan Bryant and magician Dustin Tavella, Blue finished in third place. Blue and his family (daughter Saika and son Simon) currently make their home in Denver, Colorado.
