About Jo Koy
Jo Koy is the professional name of Joseph Glenn Herbert. He’s an American stand-up comedian and screenwriter, best known for his multiple appearances on Comedy Central and Netflix comedy specials. In addition to his work as a comic, he has also worked as a panelist for various television shows such as Chelsea Lately, Hollywood Uncensored with Sam Rubin, and Lights Out with David Spade.
Jo Koy first gained fame after he landed his first of many appearances on the BET show Comic View. Joseph was born on June 2, 1971, in Tacoma, Washington. He’s of European and Filipino descent through his parents.
His father was born in the Washington area and worked in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in the Philippines where he met his mother. After the two got married, they moved to the Washington area where Joseph was born and raised. He divided his time between Spanaway and Tacoma, Washington. After he finished high school in Tacoma, he moved to Las Vegas to pursue a degree in economics.
Herbert is a former student of Spanaway Lake High School and Foss High School, with the latter being the institution that earned him his diploma. Upon his graduation in 1989, he enrolled in the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. At first, he was interested in studying business and economics but almost instantly dropped out of the university to pursue a career in stand-up comedy.
