Wang was born on March 28, 1994, in Hong Kong. He was brought up by two active parents: gymnast Sophia Chow and fencer Wang Ruiji. Wang began learning to fence when he was ten years old. As a member of the Hong Kong national fencing squad, he went on to receive numerous honors, including first place at the Asian Junior and Cadet Fencing Championship in 2011.
