About Geraldo Rivera
Rivera began working as a reporter for WABC-Eyewitness TV’s News in the year 1970 after being hired by the station. In 1972, he gained national attention and was awarded a Peabody Award for his report on the neglect and abuse of patients with intellectual disabilities at Staten Island’s Willowbrook State School and Rockland County’s Letchworth Village. Subsequently, he began to appear on ABC national programs such as 20/20 and Nightline upon the launches of those programs in 1978 and 1979, respectively.
Rivera was born in New York City, New York, at the Beth Israel Medical Center. His parents, Lillian (Friedman)and Cruz “Allen” Rivera were, respectively, employed in the hospitality industry as a waitress and cab driver. Rivera was the son of Lillian and Cruz “Allen” Rivera.
His father’s side of the family is from Puerto Rico, so he has Puerto Rican ancestry. His mother was Jewish, and his father was a devout Catholic in the Catholic faith. Rivera recorded the first episode of Good Night America, a late-night newsmagazine, in July 1973. Rivera was the host of the show (and executive produced). It was initially broadcast on a semi-regular basis beginning in April 1974 and continuing until June 1977 as a part of the Wide World of Entertainment programming block on ABC.
Rivera made history on May 19, 1983, when he aired the first mention of “AIDS” on any network in the United States by its full name. On the show 20/20, he spoke with Ken Ramsauer, a lighting designer based in New York City. Rivera enjoys being on the water and sailing. In the years 1985, 2005, 2011, and 2013, he competed in the Marion–Bermuda Cruising Yacht Race as the owner and skipper of the sailing yacht Voyager. In 2013, his vessel finished in the 12th position out of a total of 34 competitors.

The mobster Al Capone’s hidden vaults were rumored to be buried beneath the defunct Lexington Hotel in Chicago, and the special broadcast was promoted as the discovery of these vaults. The two-hour show, which was viewed by millions of people, ultimately did not succeed in unearthing any valuables that had been hidden beneath the hotel.
Geraldo was a daytime talk show that premiered in 1987 and was produced and hosted by Geraldo Rivera. The show aired for a total of 11 years. Rivera published his book in 2008 under the title HisPanic: Why Americans Fear Hispanics in the United States of America. Rivera gave a performance as himself in the My Name Is Earl episode “Inside Probe” in the year 2009. Rivera provided his voice for the Phineas and Ferb episode “Phineas and Ferb Get Busted!” in the same year. In this episode, Rivera played the role of newscaster Morty Williams.
Rivera participated in the fourteenth season of the reality competition series The Celebrity Apprentice in 2015, and ultimately finished in second place, behind the television personality Leeza Gibbons. Despite this, Rivera was the contestant who was successful in raising the most money throughout the competition. He brought in $726,000, which was $12,000 more than Gibbons.
Rivera, who was critical of Kendrick Lamar‘s performance of “YAH.” at the BET Awards in 2015, is referenced in the song “Alright” that Kendrick Lamar released in 2017 on his fourth studio album DAMN. Rivera’s critical remarks about Lamar are featured once again in the album’s second track, which is titled “DNA.”

Rivera and Dan Bongino engaged in a heated exchange of words on Hannity on May 20, 2021, regarding the problem in Israel and Palestine in 2021. Rivera described the fact that Palestinian children had been killed in strikes carried out by Israel in retaliation for Hamas as abhorrent. During the course of the broadcast, Rivera referred to Bongino as a punk.
