In 1978, he acted in the film The Buddy Holly Story as the rock legend Buddy Holly, and Sartain played the role of The Big Bopper. The film garnered Busey a nomination for an Academy Award in the category of Best Actor and the National Society of Film Critics’ award for Best Actor, both of which he won.
