About Derek Watt
Watt reunited with his brother T. J. after signing a contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers on March 26, 2020. The terms of the deal were for three years and $9.75 million. On December 21, 2020, he was knocked out as a gunner after being blocked into by his former teammate from the Badgers, Alex Erickson, when he was returning a punt. This caused him to suffer a concussion.
Watt ran his first running plays with the Steelers in the Wild Card game after spending the entire season with no yards on offense. This game was the Steelers’ first playoff game. Watt scored a touchdown by catching a pass from wide receiver Chase Claypool that was thrown to him from one yard out during week 8 of the 2022 season for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Watt had a total of 12 receptions and 150 receiving yards during the 2012 season. During the 2013 campaign, he recorded three catches for a total of twenty receiving yards. During the 2016 National Football League Draft, Watt was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the sixth round, 198th overall. He played his first game in the National Football League in the opening game of the season against the Kansas City Chiefs. After two weeks, in a game against the Indianapolis Colts, he recorded his first reception as a professional, which went for six yards. In his first season, he participated in all 16 games and finished with four receptions for 83 receiving yards. In total, he had a total of 83 receiving yards.
Watt married Gabriella Justin in 2018. The couple welcomed their first child, a son named Logan James Watt, into the world in February of 2019, and they welcomed their second son, Brayden George Watt, in December of 2020.
