About Craig Melvin
American TV journalist and MSNBC and NBC News anchor Craig Delano Melvin. He started as a news anchor for NBC’s Today in August 2018 and moved on to co-host Today Third Hour in October 2018 before being hired on a permanent basis in January 2019.
Lawrence and Betty Melvin welcomed Craig Delano Melvin into the world on May 20, 1979 in Columbia, South Carolina. He was chosen to serve as Key Club International’s first African-American president in 1996. He graduated from Wofford College with a Bachelor of Arts in government in 2001. In addition to being a senior counselor for South Carolina’s Palmetto Boys State program, he is a member of the fraternity Kappa Sigma.
The South Carolina native is reportedly bringing in an annual salary of $3 million.
After graduating from college, he went back to work for WIS in July 2001 as a news photographer and producer before joining the morning news team as a reporter and creating his “Craig Cam” live segments. Later on, he received a promotion to news anchor for the weekend evening and morning newscasts before taking over the weekday newscasts. Melvin also developed many shows for WIS-TV that, among other things, addressed problems with Columbia’s homeless population and schools.
Melvin covered the Winter Olympics for NBC in February of 2018 from Pyeongchang County. In September, he received a promotion to weekday news anchor on Today, and in October, he joined the team of hosts for Today Third Hour. Melvin co-hosted NBC’s annual presentation of the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree lighting in December 2020.
On October 15, 2011, Melvin wed Lindsay Czarniak, a former sports reporter for WRC-TV and a former ESPN sports anchor. They live in Connecticut and have two children: Sybil “Sibby” was born in November 2016 and Delano “Del” was born in March 2014.
