Snowboarder Chloe Kim, an American who has won two Olympic gold medals, was born on April 23, 2000. When she won the women’s snowboard halfpipe gold medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics at the age of 17, she made history as the youngest woman to win an Olympic snowboarding gold medal.
She made history by becoming the first woman to win two halfpipe gold medals at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. She has won six gold medals at the X Games and is the first female snowboarder to earn two gold medals at the Winter Youth Olympic Games. She is the first person to win the halfpipe championship at all four major competitions, having won it at the World, Olympic, Youth Olympic, and X Games.
Kim was reared in the nearby city of Torrance after being born in Long Beach, California, on April 23, 2000. Erica and Tracy are the names of her two older sisters. South Korean natives make up her parents. At the Mountain High resort in southern California, Kim’s father introduced her to snowboarding when she was four years old.
At age six, she began competing as a member of Team Mountain High. She studied and trained in Geneva, Switzerland, throughout the third and fourth grades. Her aunt lived there, after which she went back to California and began training at Mammoth Mountain. She speaks Korean, English, and French perfectly. Kim’s father gave up his work so he could take her to the mountains and go with her when she competed. Dana Middle School was attended by Chloe Kim. 2013 saw Kim join the American Snowboarding Team.
Kim is a second-generation Korean-American; when South Korea was still under authoritarian rule, her parents, Boran Yun Kim and Jong Jin Kim, left the nation. Her father initially arrived with only $800 in cash, took jobs paying the minimum wage, and eventually graduated from El Camino College with a degree in industrial engineering technology. He ultimately left his position to support his daughter’s snowboarding career.
Kim participated in the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea, where she has extended family. Her grandma and family members watched her compete in the Olympics for the first time. As a Korean-American who is riding for the United States, Kim said, “I have this different potential. I’m starting to grasp that I can represent both countries.” Kim received an admissions offer to Princeton University in 2018, but she chose to wait until 2019. She plans to major in science.

Kim appeared in the Nike “Dream Crazier” commercial in February 2019 alongside Serena Williams, Simone Biles, Ibtihaj Muhammad, Megan Rapinoe, and other female athletes. The commercial was shown at the 2019 Oscars.
Kim participated in her second consecutive Winter Olympics in Beijing, China, becoming a two-time Olympian. Kim competed in the women’s halfpipe. She was the first female snowboarder to win back-to-back gold medals at the snowboard halfpipe competition after successfully defending her Olympic championship.
Kim competed as “Jellyfish” in season 4 of The Masked Singer in the latter half of 2020. Kim eventually advanced to the competition’s semifinals before being exposed in a triple elimination with Tori Kelly as “Seahorse” and Taylor Dayne as “Popcorn.”
