Born and raised in the Central Valley farming town of Hanford, California, he obtained a diploma in crop science at Cal Poly, San Luis, after graduating from Lemoore High School in 1997. He subsequently started working for the custom agricultural company owned by his family. On a friend’s dare, Curtis Marsh, Brandon entered the Nashville Star talent competition in Fresno, CA, sponsored by KISS Country radio (93.7), in October 2002. Except for when he sang Garth Brooks‘ Friends in Low Places in sixth grade, he had no prior experience singing in front of an audience. Before joining this competition, Curtis and Brandon had been collaborating on songwriting for almost two years. He won the local competition, advanced to the regional finals in San Dimas, and out of the roughly 8000 applicants nationwide, was chosen as one of the 12 finalists to travel to Nashville and compete on the reality TV series Nashville Star, which was broadcast on USA Network from March 8 through May 3, 2003. He placed in the top 5.
This competition provided Brandon the self-assurance and drive to seek a career in the entertainment industry. Brandon had frequently discussed traveling to Nashville to pursue a songwriting and singing career. He recorded his debut CD, THAT BOY AIN’T RIGHT, while he was in Nashville. Since coming home, he has performed as the opening act for a number of country music icons, including Lonestar, Trace Adkins, and others. KISS Country reported selling about 700 tickets for his sold-out opening performance for Joe Nichols in Fresno. Ticket sales had been sluggish before Brandon was added to the lineup, but they immediately increased (3000 tickets). From New York City to Las Vegas, he performed at numerous performances across the US as the opening act for the National Rodeo Finals in December. In his most recent performance, Buddy Jewell, the Nashville Star winner, was the opening act. Another sold-out crowd, standing room only, and the highlight of the night was singing a song with Buddy. Although Brandon doesn’t appear like your normal country western performer, his voice has a very conventional country tone.
