About Tony Dow
During the month of December in 2008, Dow was one of three sculptors who were selected to display their work at the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts exhibition, which was held at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, France. He was the official representative of the United States delegation, which was made up of artists from the Karen Lynne Gallery. Unarmed Warrior was the title of the bronze statue that he sculpted and displayed at the shopping center in Paris. It depicted a woman standing guard while holding a shield.
Dow’s acting career began when he went on an open casting call and landed the role of Wally Cleaver in the television show Leave It to Beaver. Prior to this, his only acting experience consisted of a little bit of stage playing and two television pilots.
He played the role of the oldest son of June and Ward Cleaver and the older brother of the show main protagonist, Theodore “Beaver” Cleaver, throughout the entirety of the duration of the program, with the exception of the television pilot, which aired in 1957 and lasted until 1963.
After his time on Leave it to Beaver, Dow went on to star in a number of other popular television shows, including as My Three Sons, Dr. Kildare, The Greatest Show on Earth, and Never Too Young. He also played three distinct characters on five episodes of Mr. Novak. While he was serving in the United States National Guard from 1965 to 1968, he took a break from his acting career.
Dow tied the knot with Carol Marlow in June of 1969, and the couple remained married until 1980. In 1973, they welcomed their only child into the world. Dow tied the knot with Lauren Shulkind in June of 1980.
Dow’s mother, Muriel Virginia (Montrose), worked as a stuntwoman in westerns, and his father, John Stevens Dow, was a designer and contractor. Dow was born in the Hollywood section of Los Angeles, California, in the United States.
He began his athletic career as a swimmer and went on to win the diving competition at the Junior Olympics. Upon his comeback to the acting world, he appeared as a guest star on episodes of the television shows Adam-12, Love, American Style, Knight Rider, Square Pegs, The Mod Squad, The Hardy Boys, and Emergency!
Dow played Wally Cleaver once again from 1983 through 1989, first in a reunion television movie and then in the sequel television series The New Leave It to Beaver, for which Dow penned an episode in 1986. The series ran from 1983 until 1989. Because of his performance as Wally Cleaver, the Young Artist Foundation bestowed upon him in 1987 its Former Child Star Lifetime Achievement Award for his work in the industry.

Between the years 1957 and 1963, he played the role of Wally Cleaver in the long-running television sitcom Leave It to Beaver. Dow performed his part as Wally in both a television movie and an episode of The New Leave It to Beaver throughout the years 1983–1989. Dow disclosed in the 1990s that he had struggled with serious depression throughout his life. After that, he became the star of several self-help videos that documented his struggle, one of which was titled Beating the Blues and was released in 1998.
In the year 2021, Dow was also admitted to the hospital with pneumonia. In May of 2022, a diagnosis of liver cancer was made about Dow. On July 27, 2022, he passed away.
