About Rob Minkoff
Robert Ralph “Rob” Minkoff is an American filmmaker, screenwriter, producer, and animator. The animated movie The Lion King, which received an Academy Award, was co-directed by him and Roger Allers.
Minkoff was born in Palo Alto, California. He attended Palo Alto High School and graduated from California Institute of the Arts with a degree in character animation in the early 1980s. While still a CalArts student in 1983, he worked on The Black Cauldron as a cleanup artist for Disney.

Minkoff has directed several films for Walt Disney Feature Animation, including The Lion King (1994) and the Roger Rabbit cartoons Roller Coaster Rabbit and Tummy Trouble (1989). While working for Disney, he created the song “Good Company” for Oliver & Company. In 2003, he directed the spooky comedy The Haunted Mansion. Outside of the Disney company, he was the director of the 1999 family film Stuart Little, its 2002 follow-up, and the 2014 DreamWorks version of Mr. Peabody and Sherman. Recently, Minkoff collaborated with Shane Morris, Tim Mansfield, and Elise Allen to produce the Nick Jr. animated series Rainbow Rangers.
Stuart Little, which was published in December 1999, was a financial triumph, earning $300 million globally.
