Carter Mullally, Jr., a Paramount contract player, and a model mother welcomed Megan Mullally into the world on November 12, 1958 in Los Angeles. Megan was bitten by an acting bug at a young age and studied ballet and acting for the rest of her life because her L.A. house was a breeding place for them. Summers were spent in Los Angeles, but when Megan turned seven, the family relocated to Oklahoma City. She studied English literature and art history at Northwestern University.
Gig No. 1 for Megan
Megan left Northwestern before graduating to pursue acting full-time after she swiftly assimilated into the Chicago acting scene. Before relocating to Los Angeles in 1981, she spent the better part of a decade working in theater in Chicago.
Megan signed with the William Morris Agency not long after landing in Los Angeles, taking just two weeks to find an agent. She soon started doing modest roles in movies and television. Alongside Rosie O’Donnell from The View, Megan made her Broadway debut in Grease four years before she was cast as a regular on Will & Grace.
Megan became well-known in America thanks to her role as Karen Walker on Will & Grace, for which she received nominations in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 as well as two Emmy Awards in 2000 and 2006.
How to Host a Talk Show
Following the success of Will & Grace, Megan made the decision to focus on daytime television. Megan is a skilled dancer and singer who aspired to produce a chat show that was similar to the variety shows that, in particular, Mike Douglas and Merv Griffin, had influenced her when she was younger. The Megan Mullally Show was created as a result.
Important Event in Her Career
Does adopting the Karen Walker persona count? It has undoubtedly had the biggest influence, enabling Megan to produce the kind of program and seize the opportunities she most wishes. But what about the instant she made the decision to pursue acting, prior to earning her Northwestern degree? That might have been the difference between life and death.
Perhaps this show was a turning point in her career because of how quickly it was cancelled, leaving her with the choice of continuing in the variety show industry for the majority of her career or switching back to acting, comedy, or singing.
