One of her first jobs were working for famous interior designer Elinor Johnson. That definitely shaped her career path.
In 1948, Iris married Carl Apfel. The couple founded a textile company named Old World Weavers. Apfel’s soon became a famous name and even helped with restorations of White House interiors. Iris had an opportunity to work closely with several first ladies. Mrs. Nixon was her favorite one. According to Apfel, she was the only one passionately interested in her work.
